| 25 Feb 2004 | Nicklas Lundqvist | Loading...Nice going Joseph. I could tell just by looking at your drawings that your main influences are LOTR and Warcraft (it was somewhat apparent you might say). So far I prefer the old gray-scale myself so you are not alone out there...just thought you might want to know. Keep up the good work, and I must add I think the Sea Elf Tallhelm has a cool helmet. =) Joseph Gnemmi replies: "Oh. . . My . . . . Gosh. . . . the awesomest and one of the greats has commented on my art. . . I am in truly honored by his appearance on my humble little corner of the wood. . . *passes out* P.S: New stuff should be popping up in the next month or so, hopefully before, so keep checking back! Thank you all." | |

| 15 Jul 2004 | | Loading...I sayeth Joseph Gnemmi shalt henceforth be know as "The Armour Master". I like the way you draw your armour, you seem into making the armour good looking more than making a pic. I think you should draw the person that's wearing the armour in sketch first and then draw the armour over it on another piece of paper. This will give your pictures a more realistic feel because they actually fit the character that wears it. Also, try to bend the armour a little so it fits around the arm (for example), you tend to draw armour too much head-on which totally messes up the person wearing it. Joseph Gnemmi replies: "Thanks a lot for the advice. Now where's that tracing paper?" | |
| 4 Aug 2004 | Annoyed | Loading...ON your tour, you described people's pictures and analysed the armour, we don't want to know if it's practical or not, its just fun creating it, and obviously you dont take on your own advice, like the knight dude, NO NECK ARMOUR! and on the woman paladin on the tour you said the right shoulder plate should switch with the left, but then she wouldn't be able to have a fully functioning weapon arm!........besides that the tour was good(ps you are 'inspired' a bit too much by LOTR) Joseph Gnemmi replies: "Could you be a little more specific? which Knight dude? Neck armour isn't an essential. That's what Chainmail is for. Thanks for commenting!" | |
| 26 Aug 2004 | Catherine (GD crew) | Loading...hey hey joe! you've got some cool stuff here and its awesome to see u have other talents other then acting... haha! keep it up and have fun in art class this year! ttyl oh and coloring inside the lines ain't that hard! | 1 Dec 2004 | Bram Gerritsen | Loading...Nice ideas you have and the anatomy of figures are mostly okay, but don't you miss perspective when you draw? There's a total lack of depth. I suggest you try drawing real figures from photo's or sumthin and add those cool armour ideas of you Joseph Gnemmi replies: "I just learned how to do perspective. Seriously. But I dont know how to apply it to things other than squares and cubes and the like. Thanks for the advice, though." | |
| 1 Jul 2005 | Jean-Philippe Savoie | Loading...Well, the guy just above...there is truth in what he says. He says what he thinks without any finesse whatsoever but it has some value. What I want to say is that he is somewhat right when he speaks about your tour and about creativity. Here's what I think concerning: Your tour: You just shouldn't critisize that much. You often say that something is good or bad because the armor doesn't look functional. Well, let me tell you something. I have been in Europe and have seen a lot of real medieval armor. And trust me, those don't look functional at all, but the craftsmanship allows it to be. Also keep in mind that often, people draw an armor without thinking about its fuctionality, they just want it to have some style. Pictures on Elfwood are often made just to let wander the imagination. Just look at Salvador Dali, it's not realistic at all, but it's beautiful. Your work: Well it IS true you are not the best artist on the Wood, ad I would be a hypocrite if I told you I think your work is very good. But don't worry, everyone started like that and if you keep practicing you'll probably become pretty good. Also, like another person told you, you are way too much inspired by Tolkien and standard D&D Fantasy. (which I hate, by the way) You compare all your races to those of Middle Earth, and a lot of names, like "Merudor", sound like LOTR. What is interesting about writing something is to create your own universe, your own characters, not restricting yourself to what others have already done. If I could, I'd show you one of my stories that has very particular settings and characters, sadly, it's in french and I'm not in the mood of translating it all to put it on the Wood. Continue to draw, continue to imagine, and do not restrict yourself! Oh! And here's a hint: Draw a "wireframe model" of your character, then put some flesh on it, then put some clothes, then put the armor. (In certain cases you can ignore one or more of the steps.) This technique works very well with me. Have a good continuation! Joseph Gnemmi replies: "Thanks for all the advice!" | |
