SciFi and Fantasy Art 06- Hephaestus by Grace E Harrison

Hephaestus (or Vulcan), god of metal-smiths. Again, don;t trust my spelling. Poor guys had a tragic life. AS a baby, his mother was horrified by his ugliness and threw him down from mount Olympus. He fell into the ocean and survived, but was crippled. When he grew up, he discovered the arts of metal forging- the gods tried to call him back to Olympus. He refused. when he did return, he was married to Aphrodite, goddess of love, as a sort of reward. She never loved him, and spent most of her time in the arms of other, better looking men, mocking his genius.
