Hmm....once again, Adema was in my CD player and I was....in a cranky mood, shall we say. This one's a tad odd. I'm not quite sure where it came from. CONTENT WARNING: This IS somewhat violent

Ty slammed Kria into the wall. "Damn it! Tell me!" Kria gasped for air.

"Never," she whispered. Blood trickled out of the corner of her mouth.

Ty hissed and threw her across the room. "This would hurt so much less if you'd only tell me, you b*tch."

Kria heard him cross the room, but her vision had gone black. She looked up at him blindly. Ty kicked her viciously and she slammed into the wall. Her head snapped back and something cracked. The world went silent.

~ ~ ~

The dark burned around her. Something was wrong. Sulfur hung heavily in the air. Why the hell was she here? Again....

She coughed and bent over, trying to escape the suffocating smoke. Someone crashed into her, and Kria's mind flicked momentarily back to Ty. The ground hit her hard. What breath she had left her. The sulfur and smoke-choked air refused to enter her lungs. She gasped airless for a moment, convinced that even the strangling air was better than none. Finally some entered her lungs, just as someone tripped over her inert form. As they fell, they screamed. Stupid f***, shut the hell up! A gun rang through the clouded air. The bullet slid right through the man and ricochet into the ground, slipping off into the clouded air. He fell, his legs laying across her body.

She grunted and shoved him off forcing air into her lungs. Something fell from his dead, still-warm fingers. She reached out and gripped it in shaking fingers. She held it up, scrubbing away the dirt with a finger. She almost dropped it again when she saw the insignia. It said one word, a word that chilled her heart. Poison.

~ ~ ~

Ty kicked Kria again. Her head was reeling. She could feel the concussion spreading, the blood leaking from some ruptured brain. She smiled. Her secret was going to her grave with her.

"Tell me, b*tch."

Kria looked up at Ty. "I refuse."

Ty smiled. "Son of a b*tch, you think you're going to die with your secret." He grabbed her shirt and yanked her off the floor. He head reeled and her vision went black for a moment. "Tell me," he hissed. She wrinkled her nose. Sulfur.

"You were created of the pit that spews the poisons. Now all you need is the ring. I won't give it to you."

Ty slapped her. She fell, by her caught her half way and her neck snapped backwards. She screamed. Ty smiled. "You can stop the pain. I can make you whole once more."

"You'll turn me into a poisoned one like you," she hissed through clenched teeth.

"You'll be whole..." he tempted.

"I don't care." Ty dropped her. She thudded to the ground and laughed. "The more you hurt me the faster I die."

"I won't kill you," Ty hissed, crouching over her. He lifted her head by her hair. The tip of his nose touched hers. "You know I know when to stop. I'll simply change you, and you won't be able to resist the ring. You'll put it on, and I'll cut it off your corpse when I remove the poison from you."
Kria spat into his face. "The ring remains. My body will kill itself if you place poisons in me. You will never be whole."

"And neither will you. Your soul is damned. May you sink into hell."

Ty slid the blade between her ribs. She gasped, once again choked by sulfur, before passing on. She smiled as she died. The ring slipped from her hand, a puddle of iron melted in her dying hand. Ty lunged at it and pushed a finger into the gray puddle. Sulfur hissed from his lips as he screamed. This ring was not the only one, but it was the only one he could find. The only others had to be retrieved by a Poison-Bound, and he had just killed the last one.

Wow! This is the first story I've found here that grabbed my interest from the first lines. You throw the reader into the conflict right away and there is tension throughout the entire piece. I didn't expect her to die at the end either, and you conclude with a nice bit of mystery. If there was more, I would keep reading.

:-) Kathryn Kade Gromowski replies: "I've always liked this one, but I've never really even figured out what it was myself...I've always been tempted to add to it, but I'm a little worried about ruining the peice..."
