I stumbled upon some photos of cardinals in the snow, and loved the colors so much that I started this drawing. When it was time to put in the cardinal, I found that it had a cousin - the red crested/brazilian cardinal, and liked the thought of letting the eye-color of the elf be taken up again in the feathers. About 12-13 hours work.

Wow! I hadn’t heard of the Braziliam Cardinal, but it certainly is arresting!
Yet not so much as her eyes, which just grab me. Beautiful seems inadequate...

Very pretty piece! I love how the cardinal makes the girl’s eyes and lips shine. I’d really think she is the daughter of the cardinal.
