Although the border adds a lot of interest to the picture - I don't quite like it It detracts probably just the same amount as it gives to this image. However, without it, I dont know if this image would have that wow-factor that it does?? The bow also helps to bring her within the composition. Great! Greg Vilton replies: " Thank you very much for the praise!
Your analysis is quite interesting...
Personally, I don't really know why this pic was so popular before... It may be due to the 'pic/border'-combination. In any case, my purpose when I drew "Archer" was to create a border that would be a sort of 'extension' of the pic, if you understand what I mean... and I just hope that I've managed to do so..."

I'd summize that the border is what attributed to its popularity. Personally myself I like the style of the character's outfit. The biggest problem I can see here is pose. The character's bow arm should always be straight, regardless of angle. Reason for this is to optimize the bow's draw. Next is the character's left boot,(right side of the pic) The V shape is off center. The lowest most point of the V should actually be on the edge of the leg's linework, infact just lightly over the line for 3D effect. This will align the center of the leg to the center of the V. And my third piece of critisism is the bow. Carefully analyze the bow, you'll notice that in some areas it is thicker than it is in others. This is in large part due to shakey hands most likely. This is a hard obstacle to overcome but work on steadying your hands and your art will reflect it. So that would be my commentary, I like the outfit's design it is well done and the border is as well.
