Alsace Lorenné
‘ Touch me. Right here…beyond all being, like you did long ago.
I know it’s too late, doesn’t stop me wishing.
Hope is eternal, sweet Lorenné,
And so are we…’
Hope…where did you go? Why did you leave me?
I lie here at your feet, rain falls down: How it always will be,
That I’m forever asleep in a nightmare, all alone, the battle in my heart,
Truth that I can never wake, always alive, eyes wide open, a living, breathing part,
Of the statue standing tall in Alsace, with the pale and frozen heart.
Why? Why do only my dreams take me home? Streetlights strike up the way,
A gateway to a modern world, where the past there treads, then fades away,
Back to fair Avris Rue, I dream awake, where the child I was once danced,
Alive and sweet sixteen and new, who foolishly from bed to bed pranced,
A cruel girl, who broke the heart, of the only lover who ever proposed in advance.
Many a man my lips did meet, the very image of a common back street whore,
An upper-class child who lied about her age, chose to break in the boy next door,
He swore to cherish the girl I was, before she used him, the Virgin Bewitched,
I bedded him, without regret, taunted him after, too late, his favour switched,
When so coldly I took the virginity of a warlock, the child of a vengeful, scornful witch.
My blood grows colder, each time I remember the day Fate burst through the door,
Took me by the throat, her son in tow, the body of the doorman on the floor,
My heart turned to dust, with the swift chain of words, powerful and ever painfully true,
‘This girl must pay, for what she has done, may the heartache caused echo through,
Immortal pain, until true love she finds, there shall life end, with a saviour cold and blue!’
My life she took, eternity she gave, for a multitude of horrible mistakes,
So on I lived, like this was all a hideous dream, the murder was ‘suicide’ faked,
I did not wonder why I no longer grew, as years passed by, until a score of ten,
I was never believed, so I began to forget, live life as I had before then,
One thing changed, my appetite was lost, and I never passively touched another man again.
Love seemed a fallacy, my first never happened, until at a party, at a great house in Alsace,
A girl whose eyes were hidden behind a mask, with ruby red lips and a porcelain face,
Befriended me, took my hand, made me whole, whose green eyes sparkled, at a truth untold,
We both were different, a scorned upon pair, she for her looks, I for sins of old,
She never loved either, her many admirers, her heart too had grown lonely and cold.
Why, Lorenné? Why did you seek me out? You knew what I was,
You told me that night, beneath the stars, you could see my loss,
Why is it I allowed myself, to run with you out into the square, laughing, holding hands,
For a taste of the sunlight, you gave back to me, with a kiss soft as sand,
Blew away, washed over me, tossed aside our masks, roses spilling from you arms,
The petals touched beneath my chin, I sunk helplessly caressed by your charms,
Your long fair hair, against my skin, your scent sweet as honey, touched me with soft palms.
A love was forged, forbidden and beautiful, danced in the snow, reaching to heaven,
Both of us, letting go of the roses you held, letting them go, from one to seven,
The petals whirling softly in the wind, the sound of your heels, the swish of you dress,
The moment it ended, with those words, you stood still, as the world would know you best,
Arms outstretched, eyes laughing, glacial tears of snow and fallen roses at the hem of that dress.
Your words echoed off the streets of Alsace, even when I cried out, saw you in glass,
Unbreakable forever, always there reaching, for the love that came and went so fast,
One moment of madness, you dared to love me, and paid the terrible price,
A statue of everlasting bliss, frozen always, with one fateful roll of the dice,
A gamble I never wanted to take, an innocent sacrifice.
Lorenné…where did you go? Are you here with me tonight?
Or are you, I hope, amongst the stars, you reach for, are you with the light?
I love you, Lorenné, is all it takes, I see it clear as day,
All I needed was to say it, for the sun to return to me, forever come what may,
I pray for love and life and us, and above all my judgement day…
‘I’m…cold. I can see the stars!
All it takes, this one last breath to give to you…
Au revoir, my sweet, until we meet again…
J’eteme, ma chere, Alsace Lorenné.’
(Translations for my lovely moderator friends *wink* oh and for all you beautiful people too…
Au revoir….french for goodbye
J’eteme, ma chere….I love you my dear
Alsace Lorrene…the name of the frozen statue in Alsace
So sorry for spoiling the mood with this but kinda needed it to be posted!)
