SciFi and Fantasy Art Aredhel Passing by Hannah Lee Fritz

Aredhel Ar-Feiniel, daughter of Fingolfin, wife of Eol the Dark Elf and mother to Maeglin Lomion who betrayed Gondolin to its destruction. 'She was younger in the years of the Eldar than her brothers (Fingon and Turgon); and when she was grown to full stature and beauty she was tall and strong, and loved much to ride and hunt in the forests. There she was often in the company of the sons of Feanor, her kin; but to none was her heart's love given. Ar-Feiniel she was called, the White Lady of the Noldor, for she was pale, though her hair was dark, and she was never arrayed but in silver and white.' This is an image of Aredhel as Eol might've seen her 'as she strayed among the tall trees near the borders of Nan Elmoth, a gleam of white in the dim land.' Stupid crooked 'A'. 17 Dec 2002	Anonymous	Loading... I wrote a fic about her. I imagined the woods darker.. It scared me, because I always saw Eol as a frighteneing prescence, almost like the only reason she could love him was that he loved her - it was his only saving grace. I always imagined her quite lost and pensive, too, but like Eol was slipping into darkness and sin and she was the one thing that gave light in his life. Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "I could've made the woods darker and more frightening, but that would've required drawing trees, something I'm loathe to do. I think her expression is more of a "What was that? What was that noise?" startled type... thingy."

24 Feb 2003	Aaron R. Maurer	Loading... I love her alot! Great job! I think if I remember correctly she is one of the Noldor high-elf from Gondolin? I read the silmarillion way back in the early 90's way before I ever iamgined I would read LOTR in late 97. P.S. I also love the way you did the A in the corner Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Yup, that's what Aredhel is. Good memory. And thanks, about the A. Art noveau is cool."
10 May 2003	Lindsay E. O'Connor	Loading... Aredhel is an interesting character, and I think your image suits her perfectly! I love her dark hair, eyes, and lips against her pale complexion. She and Eol have such a strange bond, I think they're almost the disfunctional family of Middle Earth.... Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Yes it was definitely an interesting arrangement.. I think the most interesting part was that Aredhel was "not entirely unwilling" or however Tolkien puts it."

1 Oct 2004	Aaron R. Maurer	Loading... I'm sorry I take that back about all high elves being exactly 6'0. The only thing Tolkien ever said was the Calaquendi were basiclly around 6'0 and fairer of face and taller of stature and higher of knowledge and wisdom then other elves because they had looked upon the two trees of Valinor. So Aredhel could be 6'0 or 5'11 5'10 5'9 6'1 or 6'2 or whatever its up to you. Maedhros the tall was 6'4 I think which was tall even for a high elf. Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Thanks for clarifying.
