How can you not love Caranthir (the Dark)? He's adorable! 'But Caranthir, who loved not the songs of Finarfin, and was the harshest of the brothers and the most quick to anger, cried aloud: '... Let not the sons of Finarfin run hither and thither with their tales to this Dark Elf in his caves! Who made them our spokesman to deal with him? And though they be come indeed to Beleriand, let them not so swiftly forget that their father is a lord of the Noldor, though their mother be of other kin.' Maedhros (big brother) indeed rebuked Caranthir; but the greater part of the Noldor, of both followings, hearing his words were troubled in heart, fearing the fell spirit of the sons of Feanor that it seemed would ever be like to burst forth in rash words or violence.' 'Thus it was that Caranthir's people came upon the Dwarves... But though either people loved skill and were eager to learn, no great love was there between them; for the dwarves were secret and quick to resentment, and Caranthir was haughty and scarce concealed his scorn for the unloveliness of the Naugrim, and his people followed their lord.' Snippetry from The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Hannah! You posted another mad hottie! Wow, I am verily impressed with this. His expression rocks so much, and the pose, and the detail, and the... ::goes on and on:: You know, he looks totally awesome in his thumbnail size too. 2 ::gazes at the thumbnail as she posts this::

:-) Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Yus, thumbnails are grand things. I adore thumbnails."

You have a nice start, but there something not quite right...as it is with you other related portraits. Looking it seems that the preporation of the head to the rest of the body seems off, like the body is not quite large enough. Some of your other non-related stuff seems not to suffer this for some reason. Maybe I am wrong, but there is something off. otherwise, it is good picture.

17 Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "No, I was never good at proportion. To quote William Hung, I have "no professional training," and I never liked to go back and correct myself. Not good bedfellows."

Ooooh... What is he up to? With that look, he has to be planning something. The House of Feanor never had a chance after the incident at Alqualonde (and, if you read it carefully, the Teleri actually started the *killing*, although the Noldor provoked it); they were cursed by the Valar... something like "everything they do will turn to evil." Who can blame them for thinking that the Valar were all like Morgoth? It's how they were behaving! I feel kind of sorry for them. *prepares to be flamed for this post*

:-) Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "*I know!* Man, if those Teleri had just been a wee bit accomodating with their precious, precious ships. :21nif::"

Hi, there, I do a bit of drawing myself (whether it's anything good is yet to be decided) and stumbled across your site. Your drawings rock, just to tell you. Especially this one. I'm a fan of Tolkien too and, though I haven't read the Silmarillion, I think this guy looks totally elven/elfish (I shall never quite figure out these things, or anything in the universe, for that matter). Anyhoo, you're an excellent artist. Please don't be so hard on yourself.

13 Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "::beams:: Thanks! I was just thinking that I wish I would redraw this picture. If I do tonight, it'll be entirely thanks to your encouragement. And get thee to the Silmarillion!"

Woahhhh.... I just noticed, you drew a vein on the back of his hand and it totally rocks... it's so totally a vein! (That sounds so weird.) I think that little detail perfects the entire work. Dude....

1 Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Hee! I know exactly what you mean. And I'm *so* incredibly tickled that you noticed that stupid vein! :21illy grin::"

****You have really captured his aristocratic bearing. To be able to convey an attitude or an expression of emotions --is worth far more than "cookie cutter" good looks. In fact I think when people draw a character with an eye toward perfect features--they tend to lose that that's most interesting in their art.******

44 Hannah Lee Fritz replies: "Thanks very much! I totally agree with your comment, and not just because you're talking about my work. In general, I feel being able to portray an emotion of some kind is crucial to an interesting piece of work. "
