Well, here he is. The first, and so far only, official portrait of a dkiern. What is a dkiern you ask? Dkierns are one of the main creatures in my (in progress) novel, based mostly on weasle-like critters structure wise. Bjorn actually has dark blue fur...
Scottish Humor:McTavish broke the habit of a lifetime and bought two tickets for a raffle. One of his tickets won a 1,000 pound prize. He was asked how he felt about his big win. 'Disappointed' said McTavish. 'My other ticket didn't win anything'

Wow! Not only does the little creature look very well done, his surroundings are also outstanding! This would look sooo good in colour! And you said it was from a novel you're writing? Well, I think this really looks like an illustration that would be in a book, too! Great work!

1 Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note:*bows* Thank you! Maybe I will color him this year, the hard part is done all I'll have to do now is trace it to a different piece of paper! I was writing a story, it's really long and probably needs to have a ton of editing and have a few story line changes (it got out of hand!). The dkiern were the main focal point but then a sorcerer changed the two main characters into humans and now they can morph back and forth...and it's complicated. I think I need to bring the attention back to the little critters instead of changing them into human or elf (I was in my elf phaze, most everything turned elvish!)! <2"

*squees, giggling madly* That's got to be one of the cutest furries I've ever seen. My cat is licking her chops but I'm shoving her furry arse off the keybaord, cause I think I'm going to go perform some genetic experiments to make one of these cuties. Reminds me of Redwall...

1 Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: *LOL* about your cat! Yeah I guess, Bjorn, and Dkierns, does have that Redwall ish feeling to him.. .I have been meaning to color this picture this past month but kept getting sidetracked by other drawing projects (like a faerie with cool striped stockings)!"

*g* Lovely little critter, looks to be a mix of cat, otter, and weasle, not quite sure about the tail though, can't quite place that one, the bit closest to him looks almost ratish, but the tip is different.

18 Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: I was thinking along the lines of lion tail. 2 I don't really remember what kinds of critters I was thinking of when I drew him, probably rat/mouse because that is what people in the story mistake them as. I don't know how they could mistake one of the brighter colored ones for a mouse...I started this story when I was 13 or so, so I would change a lot of it now! If I had to edit all of the story I have so far, I'd probably have to get rid of most of it to make it less complex and more interesting. I got caught up a lot in emotional drama, and now-days I might kill off a different character instead of the one I did...and I would probably keep the Dkierns in Dkiern form instead of having a wizard change them so that the two main ones can shape shift...As I said, it's complex.. <2 Thank you for the comment!"

Oh, it must be aquatic with its finned feet. And its blue fur, if the water was blue and pure of course. 14 I really love the eyes, and the bits of food dropped to the ground is nicely realstic. The flowers and leaves, where on earth did you learn to draw them like that?! Amazing. They really set off the fine detail to the Dkiern's fur perfectly. ^_^ Wonderful work, I'd love to be a guinea pig to your book and further type of this artwork. Color or no, it's a fantasic piece.

18 Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note:Yep, they do like to swim, they also have clear eyelids they use when they are swimming..Err, now that I think of it, otters don't need something like that when they swim, so why would my critters? Something I never thought of when I was beginning the story at 13 or so.<2 As for the flowers and leaves, I just kind of made them up. <2 "Ok this is the shape a leaf it, and I think that I want to make a flower that looks like * sketches in flower* this..." If you mean the shading I learned that from Lee Hammond's book, "Draw Real People!". "Guinea pig" as in reading the story? <2 Thank you for your wonderful comment, and I am still working on the rest of them!2"
