SciFi and Fantasy Art Seeley (long view) by Jenny M. Heidewald

This is my best painting. I can't get it all on the scanner so I'm taking snippets of the important parts. The hard thing about working with oil paints is that you have to get the subjects skin done really quick, or your paint'll dry on the pallet and you can't get that shade again. So I can't go back and rework anything. Seeley is a jungle elf, and I had a lot of fun painting his face which turned out better than I had hoped. :)
Scottish Humor: Old Tam, who had lost all his teeth, had a visit from the minister who noted that Tam had a bowl of almonds. 'My brother gave me those, but I don't want them, you can have them' said Old Tam. The minister tucked into them and the said 'That was a funny present to give a man with no teeth.' To which Old Tam replied 'Not really, they originally had chocolate on them...'

His body is a bit disproportionate, but for all I know, you might not have been using human proportions, so I don't think anyone can comment on it until you say what sort of proportions you were using. Overall, it's an incredible painting! Kudos to you on your painting skills! I couldn't paint a good picture to save my life, but at least I can draw well ^-^ Gotta be thankful for what you get! And, once again, good job!!!- Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Well, I was trying for Wendy Pini proportions, the long, tall, super-skinny yet muscular type. "
20 May 2003	Skybreak	Loading... Good job! It really looks like an Elfquest elf! In my opinion, he looks like a mixture between Mender and Strongbow. Keep up the good work! Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Yeah, I had a crush on both those elves...< Thanks for the comment!"
17 Sep 2003	Saskia de Korte	Loading... Yup yup! See?! I was right! You DO know ElfQuest! ^^ YAY!!! Yeah, I know a Wolfrider when I see one. I think he has more of a Strongbow guy! ^^ Keep it up! Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Yes you are right. I really liked Strongbow, but I have never put up any of my fan art of him in the fanart gallery (where Mender and Nightfall reside). I actually had a story to go with this one but I forgot most of it, he is a lower ranking elf in his society. He is a guide to rich snobby elves who want to see the untamed parts of the jungle. That is about all I remember, maybe he was a third son to a snobby elf and wasn't expecting to get any inheritence so he went off and did his own thing. "
24 Dec 2003	Ah-CHOO	Loading... Like the effect the oils had on the greenery around seeley. Very organic and nice. Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Thanks! It always seems easier to do trees and greenery in paints, and on a black background. I need to get some black gesso so I can stop having to paint the canvas black and wait for a few months for it to completly dry so I can paint on it!"

16 Aug 2004	Heather A. Baszynski	Loading... He can come and save me anytime! I love the colors of his skin & and highlighting is very detailed. His muscles are very perfected. The background is great and I never would of thought of using purple of all colors and it looks awesome! Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Hi again Heather! Thank you for your kind words, and yes purple is one of the best colors for shading ( along with blue and some greens). It's amazing what colors you can use that you would have never thought of using, it was a lady at a convention that let me in on the seceret of the strange colors. "

30 Mar 2009	Jeanette M Thomas	Loading... Gorgeous. With the purple background, my eyes keep thinking I should see him surrounded by grape vines - A sort of Dionysus - but He had a panther skin. Still seems like an elf of nature’s bounty.
