| 3 Sep 2005 | Harold D. Alter | Forget what the artist above me said. Your shading is good. What you need to do is get your work on some computer program, even if it is M. S. Paint and zoom in and color it. Pixel by pixel if you have to. To get differant colors in that program double click on the closest shade of the color you want. The colored penciles is got to go. K. 'Hekate Lesedi' Snyderman replies: "I need someone to teach me to use those programmes. I'm actually trying to use Photoshop, but it's confusing." | |
| 3 Sep 2005 | Tasia MacKay | You art is very good. If you don't mind a little constructive criticism, I would suggest working on your shading. Using a wide variety of tones would give your art a lot more depth and realism. I used to be afraid to shade really dark on my pictures because I thought I would ruin them, but one day I tried it and it makes the art look 10 times better. You're so good already, imagine what a little more shading could do! K. 'Hekate Lesedi' Snyderman replies: "Thank you very much for the criticism. I'll be sure to try. I'm actually trying to use some more techniques to get a more realistic feel. I'll see how more intense shading works. Thank you very much!" | |
| 11 Oct 2005 | Larry N. Morris | You show good variety in your subject matter. I would like to think my writing reflects the same thing. K. 'Hekate Lesedi' Snyderman replies: "Thank you very much. I hope you enjoyed yourself while exploring my little part of the Woods." | |
| 9 Nov 2005 | Louise Lindgren | Hi, Hekate! I know it was a long time ago I was here last, but I revisited just now and saw the little comment about me explaining what I meant by using more contrasts, so... :-/ If it's not too late, what I meant was to widen the range of "colour" in your drawings. Where there are shadows, make the shadows really dark, on the verge of black at times, and where it's supposed to be light, leave it almost white. When you do that, you have the possibility of making room for more different shades in between and giving your drawing more depth and more of a 3d feel. Look at "Oban" for example, you are one the way there, the heaviest shades are more defined and darker and if the bright parts were just a bit brighter I'd say that that side is the one that's the sun is shining on. Same goes for "chin up" (and a beautiful piece it is). I think the matter is to dare exaggerating the shades. When I was 13 I barely dared to touch the paper in fear that I would ruin it with stronger and darker shades. It recembled your style of shading a lot I think. Now, remember that the matter of personal style is in the game as well. I wouldn't advice you to do different if you didn't feel comfortable with it, but all I'm saying that the change of thought helped 'me' improve myself and dare experimenting more with light and shadow. Should it be that you want to hear even more, drop me a mail or something and we'll work it out. Now, remember.... Art's fun. And keep it up! K. 'Hekate Lesedi' Snyderman replies: "Thank you for the clarafication. I was updating some of my older drawings, and posting those. I think I understand what you meant.I have often thought that my drawings seemed a little washed out. I'll try that. Thanks for the info!" | |
