Well, Prince knew the story. Story about that beautiful princess sleeping in a far away enchanted realm, locked in the tower, roses and thorns all around.
He was a romantic young lad, head full of tales, fairy tales, legends, dragons and such... He, of course, knew about other princesses. But just going and asking her parents he found really dull and he did not actually like the idea of fighting with a dragon either. Sleeping Beauty was the best choice.
So he set on the long journey, everything turned up to be pretty easy and those rose bushes were not at all that terrible. 'This part of the story about the journey and the roses and thorns' he thought 'was slightly overcoloured...' Actually, he felt a little cheated by those, who told him the whole tale. He expected an adventure and instead he got a long boring journey and a lot of bad weather (which was unpleasant, but far from adventurous).
And when the journey came finally to its end, he went up the stairs, to the chamber at the top of the tower. He went in. And what he found fairly dissapointed him.
Well, he realized, that going and asking a maid's parents for her hand doesn't have to be that dull at all. So he left Sleeping Beauty to her eternal rest and returned home.

Maybe if he--ugh--kissed her?

:-) Helena Štěpánová replies: "Actually... If I decided to let him go that far - it wouldn't help. *grin*"

This is a feast to the eye of every person who has ever thought it at least odd that all those fairy tales end in the canonically perfect way. Great idea, composition and final result (I especially like the roses).

:-) Helena Štěpánová replies: "Thanks..."

For Heaven’s sake, do I even have to say anything? The prince loved Sleeping Beauty, he really did! I hope little kids won’t think this is the real story! (I will say though that in older versions of Sleeping Beauty, the prince didn’t kiss her; he got her pregnant in her sleep. She woke up when she gave birth.) And that’s not a rewrite!
