After not having drawn a centaur in years now here is my most recent attempt. There is another action sketch waiting to be worked out properly, but translating this very instable hybrid into a gallopping horse still is hard for me. I think he turned out quite well, especially fond of the details such as his tribal henna tattoo, his mohawk, weapon and the ruin piece behind him. So tell me what you folks think about him and centaurs in general? I´m gratefull for every advice!

Okay, so I'll try to explain what I feel about your centaur in simple words...

He's really amazing ! Very well done, excellent pose and look, and overall anatomy, both human and horse are good. Just a little point on the horse's one, the horse's chest is not enough powerful / muscular in my taste.
I'm really fond of his head and haircut 12

Perhaps the horse part is a bit small compared to the human's one... I tend to prefer that kind of centaur with small horse's part, but it seems to me that it's a bit too short.

Congrats for this excellent piece !

Wow... quite nice for an attempt at drawing a 'taur after a dry spell. Sheesh... usually I try to find things that are wrong or... or at least something to nag about on a picture but for the life of me I just simply can't find anything that I think needs to be done differently, so, uhm, I guess I'll just talk some?

In general, I find 'taurs facinating creatures as well, its always a thrill to find someone who shares in that interest and freely draws such creatures on Elfwood. It almost seems like an unspoken custom of Elfwood that you should have at least one 'taur in your gallery... 2 I look forward to finding more 'taurs from you in the future. If you wanna try and draw my roleplayer centaur character, you are more than free to do so. Just contact me and I'll give you the details of it.

"Instable"? Centaur not instable: Centaur onplains! <G>

Seriously, though, a very fine picture. Though I do prefer the equine half a little larger in proportion to the human, that's just personal taste. 7@=e

his equine shoulder is too much like a hip to suport proper movement. a good tip would be think of how a horse moves then think of how the centaur would have to move. another thing the human porsion looks grown up but the horse portsion looks like a foal, Its a matter of body lenght compared to leg lenght (or hieght) and very great detail, and nice work on getting the hip right, i've noticed that not many ppl can get an ewquine hip right. i really rather like this peice. and an idea on centaurs is to move right they would have to have a withers (the rise over the shoulders) and it would be quite likly that they would have more horse shouulder than human waist.
by the way so u don't think that i'm pulling this out of the air i have five horses one of which is two.
(sorry bout any misspelling)

These days, when drawing centaurs, people seem to lean toward(how do i describe it?......a well read and literate type, when in fact, when centaurs were created in the minds of men long ago, they were thought of as brutish and rowdy. The only civilized centaur in mythology was Chiron. Im glad you captured the thuggish side of centaurs. ^_^

Very cool, I like your coloring and the tattoo type designs.

I hate to say it, but his horse body is just too small. But I’ve got to admit the tattoo looks amazing.

its really good, i like it. the horse portion seems slim compared to the man portion and the hips of the man seem kinda high up. i like your depiction of centaurs and the ruin is cool. one tip so the horse won’t seem so young is that young horses have short tails, but any horse older than about three has a long tail.
