My name is Ellen Hooghoudt and I'm a Dutch girl. I finished my high school last year, spent a few months on an Oxford College and now I've applied to the academy of arts in Florence, Italy. I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil and my greatest ambition is to become an illustrator of children's books, because I can still remember how happy I was with the picture books I had when I was a little girl! Most of my drawings are based on the work of J.R.R.Tolkien, one of my favourite (fantasy) writers. As you might see, I really like to draw human figures, so most of my drawings are actually characters from the books I've read. My friends often critisize the fact that I only try to create 'beautiful'(it's up to you to decide about that of course..!) objects or beings in my drawings, but that's just the thing I want. The idea that a complete imaginary world can exist, as long as your fantasy is big enough, inspires me. I love to visualize a world in which elves truly exist!

Pity Professor Tolkien is dead... I'm sure he would have loved your work. This comes from an old LOTR-addict. I wish I could do that myself. So I wouldn't have to wander on the wab looking for art to illustrate my LOTR copy.
