SciFi and Fantasy Art My DM screen by Matt Howerter

I started a D&D game with some friends and our kids. It’s based off an old game I came up with back in the late 90s. Basic plot, explore the ruins of an ancient civilization, kill shit and take the booty. The thing is we customized the 2nd edition system quite a bit, so a traditional DM screen wouldn’t work, thus this piece of art was created.

I dug through all my old and new books to find those perfect monsters for my montage. If you pick up or own any of the D&D monster manuals you’ll see where my inspiration came from.

So without further ado I’ll introduce part of the cast of my little adventure, starting from left to right:

The Ogre – great for scaring the shit out of your 1st level characters.
The Gnoll – good stock troops for your players to hack through.
The Goblin – great fun to use against your players coin purses.
The Bugbear – tons of fun working with the strongman of the gobliniod species.

In the background we have The Mountain Giant, good for crushing just about any party, and The Ancient Dragon, which if played correctly, can never be beaten.

The city maps I created all those years ago had a strong Mayan feel to them. Many Ziggurats mixed with English castle walls.

Fun stuff, hope you dig it.
