2007

This is Nemo's Nautilus from another view, being finished in a secret cave on some remote island. We were given the task to make two drawings showing where Nautilus could have been build with nobody knowing about it.

I made this as a sample work for applying to Computer Graphics at gsCEPT (www.gscept.com), Luleå University of Technology.
I made it in and estimate I'll be ready with my bachelor's degree here in 2011.

Great pencil work, especially with the reflections in the water and the sheen on the sub. The rivets give the sub a nice retro-tech feel.

The back fin only looks large because of the foreshortening of the sub. Look at the second picture and it’s a reasonable size. But even if it was "oversize" it might have added something different to the picture.

:-) Malin Hedström replies: "Thank you! It is great to recieve some comments that are a bit constructive like this.

Yes you’re right, it’s the same ship, just a different angle that makes this fin look big. I even made a very simple model and photographed to get the right size proportions.
What do you mean by that it might have added something different? Thanks!"

Very well done. I immediately thought to the "Nautilus" when I saw this picture, before reading the comment. I love it. 1

:-) Malin Hedström replies: "Thanks =) I’m glad it led the thoughts the right way."

This is one is very well done too! I love how shiny the metal looks.

:-) Malin Hedström replies: "Thank you! It’s all sparkly new =)"

As to my comment earlier. There is no set rule of course so the tail fin could be any shape and size you wanted. An outsized fin would simply give a different look to the submarine, perhaps closer to an actual animal. Come to think of it, think of how large a whale’s flukes are compared to the rest of him. Now there’s an idea, eh?

:-) Malin Hedström replies: "Yeah, the good thing about science fiction and imagination, it can turn into pretty much anything =)
Hm, a whale-like sub might be something interesting.."

What a great task to be given! You’ve drawn this beautifully! So much detail. I love the background, and the shiny Nautilus...well, EVERYTHING!!!

:-) Malin Hedström replies: "Yeah, it was a pretty interesting theme they thought up. I had fun drawing it. Thank you!"
