This looks pit like Terry Practhett´s "Wee ree men" main character, except this one has red hair.. But it´s great work,
you should read his books.

EDIT (again, I'm sorrry!): It also seems interesting that where Jennifer's light shines, the sky shows blue and clear. Is this a metaphor, or a foreshadowing? Am I not allowed to know? 10

You said a battle took place there many years before. How interesting, then, that in I tink all pictures we have seen of Ives Horizon, the clouds are always in turmoil...Nice.
