Update: :D My design was chosen to appear on the cover of the Back to School 2006 catalog!

This piece is going to be a cover design submission for a catalog called Gypsy Rose which specializes in bohemian clothing, jewelry, and other sorts of "hippie" products. As you can see, it will be a submission for the Fall/Winter 2006 cover. I suppose it might be better to wait to display it, but I just finished it very late last night and am really excited about it. There's no guarantee that it will be actually picked to go on the cover, mind you, and unfortunately I have to send them the original (:cries:), so I figured I would display it while I still have it in my possession. I really do hope it gets picked though! I would love the free stuff and it's always a thrill to see my work in print.

I tried to use imagery that harmonizes with the nature of the catalog and its products as well as appeal to its customers. The woman's clothing is directly inspired by much of the clothing the catalog actually sells. The style was influenced by Asian art (the influence of Hindu art should be fairly obvious ;) but there is also a Buddhist influence), Art Nouveau, as well as the psychedelic artwork characteristic of the 60s and 70s, which is especially evident in the "Gypsy Rose" typography.

Media: Prismacolor colored pencils, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink
Size: 8"x11"
