Every word of this is absolutely true: When I was somewhere or other between 2-5 years old, I had a strange nightmare in which I was watching the tv and all that was on was this creature hopping up and down in a room slapping itself and saying 'Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!' in a tiny, somewhat metallic voice while a woman I recognized from sesame street watched in disgust. For no good reason, this scared the crud out of me and caused be to leap out of bed in a cold sweat.

The following morning, I got over my fear and made the monster from the nightmare tv into one of my imaginary friends. I named him after the only thing he could say and would draw many pictures of him playing with me and my other imaginary pal, eyeball guy. I know the big smooth surface looks a little odd and out of place, but I wanted this to be 100% accurate. In the actual dream, this featureless flat face gave the overall impression of solid grey rubber that had been clumsily sliced in half with a kitchen knife. It was very slick and glossy, but pitted and uneven. The growths resembling barnacles on a whale were actually white 'suction cups' and I'd estimate he stood about 10 feet tall.

...Most people would think that I must have been a pretty troubled or depressed child to have come up with something like this, but I was actually a very, very happy kid. I just had a warped imagination.

Warped imaginations are great...especially if you can get a good hold of it and use it. I think you have. I can't wait until I get to see newer stuff as you become more and more experianced as an artist

I was also a pretty well adjusted kid but I had tons of nightmares. Many of them were about the attic door (which was in my room) opening and pouring forth monsters the likes of which you and I draw to drag me into the attic.

:-) Jonathan Franz replies: "I sadly grew up in a trailer...no basement, no attic. I live in a big house now but the basement is mostly above ground and STILL no attic. I have no place to hide from the sun!"

Man, your description and picture have given me an incredibly clear idea of what this would be like in real life. Very bizarre. I used to think there was an orange, spikey monster in my toilet, and I had to keep it down with my waste. So each time I went, I would go as fast and hard as I could then flush straight after. (Just thought I'd share my monster story too.)

:-) Jonathan Franz replies: "I believed a family (mom, dad, and little boy) of skeletons would watch me take baths through an invisible window."

I had nightmares about shapes that would swallow me.
I'd be standing in a big white room, and suddenly a brightly coloured shape (triangle, square, circle, etc) would zoom at me and swallow me. I would then be standing in a room the colour of the shape when another would zoom and swallow me. This would gradually pick up speed and i would wake up dizzy and sick and sweaty. These dreams would usually happen during afternoon naps.

:-) Jonathan Franz replies: "Nightmares about shapes, patterns or sizes usually happen when you're sick, and come from something in your brain being a bit "off", or so I'm told. I used to have similar kindsa things. Someone on a message board once was talking about a dream they had of a pure white sphere in a white hall and suddenly both sphere and hall started blistering and turning purple. Fun!"

Hey I really like the entire concept behind this pic, I wish I'd had an imaginary friend that cool when I was young.

Wow, that's a strange nightmare. Your art is all very good. I've always been affraid of those drains in parking lots, affraid some monster is going to reach up and grab me if I step on one. I always hop over them if I can't walk around them since they creep me out....

wow, you all had nightmares that were cool comapred to mine. The little mermaid gave me nightmares but the nightmares I specifically remember were the priests with their eyes and mouths sewn shut, they wore grey robes and instead of hats they were completely bald.. some had patches of skin dropping off their heads as they walked and they would always walk after me with bibles and sythes...
But the little mermaid-induced dreams were far more freakish.

That dream sounds depressingly sad, insanely creepy and bloody hilarious at the same time. and the 'Hit me, hit me, hit me' monster looks like a unholy mix of an elephants leg and a whale. what i wanna say is that I envy your sick imagination, my imagination is totally lame. but when I was about 5, i used to hallucinate about a old woman, who´s head suddenly split in two halfs, and the brain exploded in a burst of blood, and the blood froze in the form of a futuristic armored assault vehicle.

I have and always had sick nightmares too, but I´m not going to share them. I just want to say that I love your drawings, your designs are awesome! I hope you´ll get some colored ones too. When I was doing only pencils, I tried watercolor to add color to my drawings, that worked for me.
