SciFi and Fantasy Art GateKeeper by James Elliott Whitley

When I initially started this piece I had something a little different in mind. The large character was actually going to be in a cave and have more GIANT features. As you can see he does appear to be humongous, but his proportions don't support this enough. Anyway, he is the guardian of a large ruin inhabited by his kind. These small creatures have come to request assistance in protecting their land. Another race has been unfairly threatening to take their land and so they are willing to provide food from their rich lands in exchange for protection during the dry season, which also happens to be when large birds with gigantic talons come and steal their food. The large creature in the background is actually wearing a protective mask of skull from one of it's victims along with a leg bone as a weapon.
