"The Zoltan Family" by Matt Jarrett

Beygraf Zoltan with his firstborn Jhoric, his pride and joy, while Joanna (still a young girl of about 9 years in age) lurks meekly in the background. Joanna's mother died while giving birth to her, and her father Zoltan, the Beygraf of Ket,  resented her for it and ignored her for most of her life. Instead, the palace handmaidens were relegated to raising her. Meanwhile, instead of paying attention to Joanna, he lavished all his affections on her older brother Jhoric. Joanna's childhood was lonely as she tried in vain to garner her father's attention. Just because you're a princess doesn't mean childhood was without heartache.

Joanna was an old D&D chracter of mine. Zoltan was her father, and was mentioned in TSR's Out of the Ashes boxed supplement and other supplements as the expansionistic ruler of Ket.
