| 8 Jan 2004 | LuvLOTR | Loading...Again, it's beautiful! Your ability to work with mediums (markers, watercolors, etc.) that many people (like me) is remarkable! Keep painting and drawing, and thank you for your advice! (back at Galadriel's Garden) ;-) Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "No problem. But next time sent me a private email with 'Elfwood' in the subject box so I can give you more tips; there's only so much space in my guestbook, okay. Thanks for dropping by again!" | |
| 10 Feb 2004 | Catharina Christina Schrama-Royers | Loading...O yes... I see, its a lovely frog prince. And I love frogs, I think I have about 400 of them in my house. Stored away in boxes ( No they're not real ) because I have no room for them right now. But this is a really very nice picture, I love faery tales. I also love the other ones on your gallery. You are really good. So, keep it up, groetjes van mij. Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "Aah, so you're a frog collector? Did you kiss each one to see if they turn into princes? Thanks for the comment, groetjes terug!" | |
| 22 Mar 2004 | Nathaniel S. Summers | Loading...wow, it is amazing that we would both do a piece with the background in the circle that also contains a frog! i must say that i LOVE that background, very well done, very detailed. but i find the characters in the forground lacking in contrast. i happen to be big on shading. besides that one little quirk everything is great. i love it! thanks for commenting back at my gallery too! Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "It is amazing, isn't it?! And rather funny!! Anyway, I know what you mean. I wanted the characters to look more storybook-like and the background more impressionistic I guess. It was my first try at combining two so different techniques in one pic. Thank you so much for repaying the visit and for the comment!" | |
| 1 May 2004 | Katelyn Shibley | Loading...I'm in love with the frog ^_~ Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "Really? Isn't that suppose to happen AFTER he turns into Prince Charming..?!!!Thanks for the comment." | |

| 16 Jan 2006 | Rebecca K. Earl | Loading...Dress is gorgeous and i love the whole picture. You are truly talented. The background looks amazing, it must of taken you ages. Brilliant work, keep it up! Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "Actually doing backgrounds this way (watercolour) is pretty fast, which is a good thing because I usually don't like doing backgrounds. Thanks for the comment!" | |
| 21 Mar 2006 | Lena Yn | Loading...I really envy your watercolors skills. The colors are so gentle and… well, natural. The only little flaw I think is the Princess’s back. It looks a bit odd to me. (But probably it’s just me… ) Otherwise, great fairy tale illustration! =) Though in my country the tale is a bit different: it’s about the frog Princess and the golden arrow. But kissing frogs is all the same all around the world methinks. Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "Thank you for your comment. I'll have to look into the version of the fairytale you describe..sounds interesting. Thanks for the visit." | |
| 19 Feb 2008 | Lydia stephanie Barker | Loading...really like it...neat that you are going off of some older fairy tales | |
| 5 Sep 2008 | Randy Hoyt | Loading...Jaschenka,
I run a web site called "Journey to the Sea" that I describe as "an online myth magazine", which is devoted to studying mythology, fantasy, fairy tales, science-fiction, and similar works of mythic art: [http://journeytothesea.com].
We have an article on G.K. Chesterton and fairy tales coming out in the next issue. While looking for images to include in the post, I found this image you have done. Wow! I really like it! Would you be willing to grant me permission to use this image on my site? I would definitely give you credit, linking the image back to this page and including your name in the article.
All the images are cropped, rotated, saturated, and colored to fit into the site design. Here’s a link to a modified version that I would like to use: [http://tinyurl.com/5seydy]. Let me know!
Thanks,
~randy Jaschenka Saarloos replies: "Hey Randy. I’d be honoured if you put my image up- love what you’re doing with the online magazine. (GO SEE everyone!!)" | |
