| 10 Jan 2005 | Laurlaur | Loading...Oof... imagine the split-ends... Very nice! It's all so very calm and serene. The detail is fantastic and the lighting is superb! The only drawback I see, (and it's very minute, don't worry) is the length of her hair. Unless I'm completely mistaken, that thing had to make it aaaallllll the way to the bottom of the tower. Perhaps you'd like to make it longer in the future. Overall, the picture is very very nice! Jasmin Islam replies: "I know. I couldn't be bothered drawing so much braid, so my excuse is that there is a long loop of hair hanging out the window right in front of Rapunzel, where you can't see it, which comes back up into view over her lap as you can see." | |
| 10 Jan 2005 | Michelle L. Hunt | Loading...Wow...You did this in pen!?!?!?! this is awesome! I love it, it's really pretty...I like the background, and I love the window...and well, everything in general is really nice. Great job! | |
| 19 Jan 2006 | Andrew Whiteford | Loading...Ha Ha. I agree with the sentiments. I only drew in pen when I used to attend boring meetings. I sympathise because I can feel how much effort you have gone to for this.
It's a very nice picture by the way. I think the blue really helps convey the mood. | |

| 9 Aug 2006 | Rasha Al Najjar | Loading...Wow all with ballpoint pens, now that's an amazing feat! The picture is fantastic I might add. | |
| 15 Aug 2006 | Marina Marlagoutsou | Loading...Hey, this is great!(really, didnt you knew that already?)but ahem, dont mind the annoying comment but i dont think that the prince would ever be able to climb the tower on such thin hair...(not mention, i always wondered howcome she didnt woke everyone up, with screaming of pain...)ah, such a tale spoiler i am. Jasmin Islam replies: " Good point, but ropes made of human hair aren't unheard of! From what Google has revealed to me, apparently human hair has a tensile strength (on average) of 190MPa. This is a little bit weaker than cast iron (200MPa) and cotton (225MPa), but a lot stronger than polyester (50MPa) and nylon (63MPa)*. And who knows, maybe Rapunzel used magic shampoo to make her hair even stronger.
Also, some cultures are known to have used ropes made of human hair, namely the St Kitts Islanders, who would use their hair-ropes to abseil down sea cliffs to steal eggs from birds' nests*.
As for the pain, I found a nice answer to that in an illustration in one of my fairy tale books. It showed a hook jutting out from Rapunzel's window sill. She would wind her braid around it once or twice, so that the strain from the weight of the witch and/or prince climbing up her hair would be transferred there and not hurt her head.
In short: everything is feasible in Fairytale Land. Thanks for your comment Marina!

| 16 Nov 2006 | Megan Proverbs | Loading...Actually, I just noticed something. Would there be that much illumination on her back if the moonlight is coming from in front? You've got the shadow on the stone but maybe not enough on her body... Jasmin Islam replies: "Hm, yes, I think you're right. While I was drawing this, I didn't want to lose the creases in her nightgown by making them darker." | |
| 16 Nov 2006 | Megan Proverbs | Loading...Absolutely beautiful and very skillfully drawn with ball point pens. And I have no problem whatsoever with the hair. Simple explanation-- it hasn't grown to full length yet. | |
| 10 Jun 2008 | Krystal J Pace | Loading...Rapunzel Haven’t heard that storry in a very long time And you did it all in pen....wow, impressive. I tried to draw something in pen once, but I chose a poor quality pen and it left ink puddles where ink puddles weren’t supposed to be on the page. Anyway, great job!! | |
| 25 Jan 2009 | Shalane Leigh Jarnagin | Loading...OOO, for anyone worried about the tensile strength of human hair, by all means check out Mythbusters...beautiful portrait - staggering that it was done completely in pen, Bravo... | |
