Hey! You do that eerie draw-lines-and-then-draw-facial-features thing that everyone does! Maybe *that's* what I should do. Hm. And THEN figure out how to work photoshop to my advantage...

B-b-but...smudging is what I DO! It's the only way I can get a half-decent pictuuuurrrreee! [/whine] I think the reason I smudge is psychological. It reconnects me to my childhood, to finger-painting (so much fun!), to eating glooky-gloppy food with my hands... And don't *anyone* dare to take those proud memories away from me! *looks defensive*

Hmm .. well kneadable eraser could have taken some out.. and as for smudging, it depends what you like, if you dont smudge, it takes a lot longer and you have to apply the same pressure (and keep a sharp point)for most of it.. but i personally think it looks better.. by the way, what # pencil do you use to shade? 'cause i've been told 2h & 4h are the best pencils to use for light shading.. either way she has a very beautiful head.. ^-^

SMUDESMUDGESMUUUDGE!!!! lol i smudge just about everything..which is why i never ink my artwork lol. i get in trouble for it all the time.. mainly because i draw alot of anime.. where smudging is typically a big no no. but i get away with it, most of the time. i'd like to smudge it all over my art teacher's face.. grr i cant stand her sometimes.. shes always saying how there is art in everything and everything is art.. then a direct quote from her on anime: 'its not art.' a quote from her on fantasy drawings: 'its not art.' a direct quote from her on anything that is not either from a still life or is a blatant ripoff of another artist's work: 'its not art.'

Yeah my art teacher don't like me too do smudging either but I think it brings out the picture more.

I think your pencil sketches look awesome, quite professional... Though my opinion is that you completely destroy the drawing with the smudging! The pencil drawing looks so good... why u have to use Photoshop??

I like the second square best, I don't know why. The end result has lost too much detail to me, and more highlights need to be put in the hair....but that's just me. Great work, I can't do profiles for my life!
