As the new Extranet was never-ever designed for a person pushing 5,000 main page comments, I think I’ll stop trying to find your post on there and answer you here. 12

Not Moddin’, but still writin’. And starting to get things finished, which is a rather nice change from how I used to be. *crosses fingers for this trend to continue*

I look forward to your piratey novel. Avast! Arrgh! Additional Pirate-Like Lingo!

I hope ye’ve been doin’ well, Master Jackson. *huggles!*

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "Doing okay... trying to figure out how and where to send this novel... I really need to motivate myself to push it harder. Marketing.... Yeech!"

Thanks for the insight on Helm... I should have looked into the reviews sooner. I feel like I’ve been my own editor for this book. Thanks for the offer, but I just aproved the proof copy yesterday, and it’s already been delayed once. I hope I did ok... Someday I hope to find a better company. How is your’s going? Are they on top of things?

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "It’s difficult from our end to figure out who is good and who is not so good. I’m now having second and third thoughts about the small press I’ve been considering... Oh well..."

Hoorah! Your book has arrived safe and sound. *wanders off to read*

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "Yay!! Or should I say "Finally!!" Seems like I mailed that two weeks ago! Usually media mail is good... anywhere in the US in about 3-4 days...

Enjoy!!"

Hey there. I’ve been inivted to atend the Decatur Book Festival in Georgia. (http://www.decaturbookfestival.com/2008/index.php)
I’m wondering if you’ve heard anything about it. I was reading your profile ... you live in Florida! Are you going to the Festival? It’s right close by ... me on the other hand, its a 2 day drive. I think I’m going to fly out.

So, what is the publishing co. you’re looking at? I had an offer from another publishing company almost 3 months after signing the contract with Helm. Just curious ...

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "No plans on going to Decatur. It’s an 8 hour drive for me. I’m not familiar with the festival but it sounds like fun!

Oh, and look at your contract with Helm... You may be able to walk away if this new publisher is better... Shoot me an e-mail... we’ll talk."

I can’t seem to find your e-mail anywhere ... no, this other publishing company called me 3 months after signing the contract with Helm, and that’s been over 10 months ago. I’m still very ignorant when it comes to this publishing stuff, so I turned them down. I didn’t even know what they were going to offer. Helm is alright, just really slow with getting things done. I actually have a good contract with them ... it expires in August though. She was already talking about my second book....

I see you have quite a few books published already! I thought you said you were looking at another one - have you switched companies a lot? Do you have an agent?

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "I’m actually rethinking my approach and soliciting an agent... again. I had a bad agent for a very long time, which soured me on the whole agent thing.

Anyway, wish me luck. If you want to e-mail me, it’s chris@jaxbooks.com "

Just a question if you find the time to answer it. What is the html one needs to use to get the paragraphs to indent?

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "No idea... I just "save as HTML" from word. Also, if you are really interested, just go to a story that has indents, and go to "View" "Page Source" which will pop up the full HTML of the webpage... any webpage."

Just out of curiosity, which project are you currently working on? Or is it not posted on here?

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "Currently, I’m working on "Show us what you’ve got"... I’m thinking of a contemporary fantasy involving succubi and golfing... yeah, really..."

A Soul for Tsing was simply spectacular sir, and I love that its set in the same world as Scimitar Moon with quite a few references that had me going, ’ah yes, i remember one Morrgrey in particular..." Well done as usual, I’ll have to make another purchase some time soon.

*TheCheeseGirl*

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "Glad you enjoyed it... Cross your fingers for Scimitar Moon... it is currently looking for an agent... "

Hey, so I’m having a bit of trouble responding to people’s comments. Here’s my response to your comment on Tarnis. Brace yourself...

I wrote this story in one night two or three years ago, and the focus and grammar shows. I’ve just went over it and did some fixing and fine tuning, but I doubt it’s finished yet.

The combination of swords and guns was intentional in this story, and most of what I’ll be posting. It’s based on the idea that technology has advanced so far that the peole are actually looking to the past for better efficiency. Like they’ve created an energy shielding system that can take a beating for high-speed projectiles, but a sword or a fist slips right through. There’ll be an explanation somewhere in my novel.

And I myself love the choreography, and my writing used to be drenched in it, but I decided that too much of it slowed down the pacing too much. So I’ve been trying to hold back.

Both Goune and Tarnis survived their first meeting because a bunch of townspeople burst in on them before they could finish their duel. Each left their mark on the other though.

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "That’s the problem with having such a detailed world involved in a short story. You don’t have time in a short for that kind of depth. You either have to keep it contemporary, or work with something everyone knows.

Guns and magic together wasn’t the problem, for me, anyway. I just didn’t understand why the people who had this magical ability to "accelerate" their actions and be such effective fighters, weren’t shot in the head by a hidden assassin... Guns are a great equalizer... "

And also chapter 1 of Oblivion is up.

:-) Chris A. Jackson replies: "I will drop by!"
