Well, I survived another DragonCon. Took a ton of pictures, and made some great contacts. If you have not read Jana G. Oliver, make a point of it. She is publishing a series of time travel novels that are very good, and besides, she's a sweetie...
For all of you who read, listend to and loved Cheese Runners, Cheese Rustlers, the sequel is up and running, and avialable on audio.
In even more recent and awesome news, I just spent a wild week at a writers' workshop called Viable Paradise. Wow, what an experience. Honestly life changing, I think.... I hope... This was not an inexpensive investment, but with the faculty who were there, and with us one on one, it was totally worth it. If you want to take your writing to the next level, and want the tools from the big names in the industry, consider it.
I also put out a podcast with Gail Z. Martin, author of "The Summoner" a great new series featuring a necromancer who is actually the hero of the tale. A big shift from what I did with Deathmask, so we had a lot to talk about. Drop by and listen.
What else is new. Well for those of you who read a little of "Scimitar Moon" while the chapters were up, I'll tell you it's done, though may still go through one more rewrite before submission, since it's way too freaking long (about 165,000 words!). I'm also working on the last in the Cheese Runners series. Cheese Lords is just about half finished, and half baked... Had to say it... and I may have some interst from a publisher!!! Wooo hoo... no I will not get excited yet...
About me: I live on a sailboat with my dear wife in Florida and work for a university (the accursed day job. I write in my spare time, and I'm putting my own work out for people to purchase and enjoy. I do a lot of conventions in the southeast. If you're interested in where I'll be, drop by my site and have a peek.
My advise for any aspiring writer is still:
1)kill your television
2)write something every day.
3) learn the business of writing, submitting and covering yourself. There are lots of predators out there.
4)Write what you love, and do it because you love it, not because you want to be rich, famous or both. You have a lot better chance of being a pro football player than a successful SFF writer in the US, so we've got to do it for the love of it.
Oh, and it's SF not SciFi... Pet peeve of most of the entire US publishing industry...
InterestsSailing, scuba, snorkeling, gaming, writing, reading, coffee, espresso, mochafrapaccino (you get the picture), good food, wine, friends and the pursuit of a best-selling novel
Favorite Fantasy/Scifi Movies and TV ShowsNo TV, that's the best TV. Though I have heard a few good shows are on now. I loved the Matrix series, LOTR left me a little awestruck and disappointed at the same time. Aliens (the second one) is, I think, one of the best SF movies ever made.

I can’t upload stuff till I remove a smiley but I can’t figure out how to edit my profile! 2) I remember I used to copy my stories into notepad and then go thru the entire story putting in HTML tags individually, but towards the end I found out I could just save it in MS Word under a certain format... what was that format? Web? Web filtered? Or something else? I’ve got MS Word 2007 so I want mods to actually be able to open my files... Good to hear you’ve been prolific tho If you don’t mind me asking, do you make enough money with your books? Enough to live on? Or you still got your day job? Chris A Jackson replies: "Hey, Ray
I do NOT make enough on my writing to live. We’re currently taking some time off work, but I’m not supporting myself with my writing yet... yet....
As to how Wyverns is working, I’m having difficulty with the format myself. I don’t update much any more. I did upload a story not too long ago, and I think I used MS word and saved it as Web. There has to be a tutorial around Elfwood somewhere!
Good luck!" | |

| 7 Dec 2009 | Christy Miller | Loading...Hi there! I was just wondering how your search for an agent was going. I’ve sent out 15 query letters and all came back as rejections. I just need to try again. Do you have any more tips for me on how to get one? Chris A Jackson replies: "kind of on hiatus on that right now... Not submitting anything. Working on the sequel to Scimitar Moon and the third in the Cornerstones Trilogy, so no real need now. When I start looking for another publisher, I’ll try again.
Advise? Keep trying, but don’t settle for someone who won’t do a good job for you!" | |

| 15 Dec 2009 | Meg Rachor | Loading...Master Jackson, you know that your work is deserving of high praise I wonder...do you ever hate your writing? Chris A Jackson replies: "Thank you, Meg, but yes, of course, there are times when I hate what I have written and want to quit... those times are, thankfully, fleeting, and usually induced by some minor "thing" like another rejection letter... Which is normal..." | |
| 16 Jan 2010 | Jeremy Whiteoak | Loading...You, sah, got some great stuff. I seem to remember reading a story about a psychologist interviewing a soldier that was really great. Did that ever get published? Chris A Jackson replies: "Hey Jeremy,
That piece was called "Warmonger", and no, it has not been published... yet. I do have a new publisher for my novels, however! Check out Scimitar Moon and my publisher Dragon Moon Press! It’s in the finals for ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year for SFF!
Psyched!" | |

| 17 May 2011 | Ray Valen | Loading...When you gonna put up anything new here? Finding anything decent to read is so hard... Chris A Jackson replies: "Sorry, Ray, but I’ve been totally ignoring my Elfwood page... Bad me... So much going on. You might drop by my webpage: www.jaxbooks.com. You can download chapters for free, and I’ve got a free audio download for Cheese Runners. ;-) Or you could buy my books... he he..." | |
