| 13 Aug 2001 | Brian Walsh | Loading...I get to be the first to comment, eh? *muaha* First off, I'd like to say...THE BACKGROUND IS AWESOME! How did you DO that? Also, the rendering of the two men is excellent. I like the use of distance between the two and the offset camera angle. It gives it a very cinematic feel. Wonderful work. ^_^ | |
| 16 Oct 2001 | Brian Keith Cooke | Loading...Very good likenesses. Good job with the stillsuits as well. I especially like the camera angle here. Well done! Jay Javier replies: "Thanks for your comment. I'm reworking my stillsuit texture so it'd have more bumbs and techie stuff on it. I'll post a few more renders soon, along with my newest model -- a saurdakar!" | |
| 17 Dec 2001 | Nicholas | Loading...Dune is awsome i loved the books and the movie and miniseries but herbert had help with the storyline he borrowed ideas from E.E. Doc Smith's Chronicals of the Lensmen which is the first and best peice of modern scifi predating dune by 40 years | |
| 2 Jun 2002 | Muad'Dib | Loading...This is one of the best dune inspired illustrations I have ever seen. I too think Dune is more of a techno-fantasy or space fantasy rather than hard sci-fi. Too the viewer with the comments about the Lensmen series--since Lensmen was written in the 1940s and Dune was published in the 1960s it only predates Dune by maybe 20 years. Also it is possible for two people to hit upon similiar storylines and themes completely independently bu that is not denying the influence of the Lensmen series and also Asimov's Foundation series on Dune and other Space fantasies/space operas. Although thematically Dune is a more sophisticated piece of writing than either work. | |

| 7 Oct 2005 | Stilgar | Loading...Yeah, I'm the guy in the back. Don't I just look hot? I mean, don't all mention me at once... "Paul looks great..." blah blah! Did any of you notice that Paul can't even grow facial hair? Look at my kick ass beard! Wheres my mention you water fat morons? | |
| 9 Dec 2005 | Merennulli | Loading...I was chuckling at Stilgar's comment when I noticed, he has a point - you not only did a good job on Paul, who still has his trace of water fat, Stilgar in the distance is clearly of the desert. The facial structure isn't glaring since he's in the distance, but it's visible enough to be clearly not water fat. I really like the detail on the stillsuits as well, though I don't feel that all parts are well represented. No Fremen would be out in the open bled without their noseplugs in and their hood up. As to sci-fi/fantasy, there's a science-fiction explanation given for everything, although the explanation of the preborn, prescience, and the mote-mind are weak. Up until 'Episode 1', Star Wars got away without even that explanation on even more fanciful powers, and still got the name "Sci-fi". | |
