Pencil sketch of how I imagine Tolkien's dwarves look like. Depicted is Thorin Oakenshield. I didn't want funny looking, stunted dwarves with big noses. Tolkien wrote that they were merely shorter and of studrier girth and build. I know he's supposed to be carrying an elven sword but I drew him with an axe, maybe it was a scene before the hobbit, when the dwarves fought the last battle of the Dwarf and Orc Wars.

You should really do more dwarves. Every time I see this picture, I like it better. Try doing Balin and Bombur e.g. And, by the way: yes, Orcrist and the Arkenstone were buried with Thorin - or laid on top of his grave. Glamdring I think either disappeared when Gandalf fought the Balrog, or it might have gone with him back into the West.

this is truly a great dwarf you have depicted here. I, too, feel that they should not be comically stunted or have big noses, etc.

The helmet, although Gondorian in nature, could have been a gift or more likely bounty from an older age.

Thank you.

Down with the jarjarbinksification of Dwarves. There is no doubt Gimli had a keen sense of humor and that was probably a mark of his intelligence and wit that may have been the reason for his inclusion in the delegation and the made him the right choice for the fellowship. However that is no reason to make him the comic relief don't you think?

Would you draw the thirteen and maybe the delegation?

At you and your family's service,

This is a very nice picture. You would be correct to have him with an axe because in the battle of 5 armies it says he charges out with shimmering armor and a long axe. Again very nice.

Glamdring was not lost after the battle with the balrog of moria, what else would Gandalf have used in the last battle? And he used it to defeat the balrog, so he could have brought it with him when the Lord of the egles bore him to..was it Lothlorien? Anyway, great job! I love how Thorin looks like a very solemn character and holds am air of magistey. And I'm soooooooooo tried of people making Dwarves to be like short fat kids! I hate it, hate it, hate it!!!!!! This is a Thorin I would have envisioned. Tolkien would be proud, and I can't give you no higher praise than that!

Very nice! You drew him just like I pictured him. Despite owning Orcrist, I think an axe does indeed fit better in this portrait. I love the winged helmet.
