  | For some strange reason, this was rejected the first time by the moderator who processed the ticket with the reason noted as "does not contain any elements of science fiction, fantasy or paranormal horror". So let me be plain about what this is: It is a tribal style image of , basically, an angel (though I call them zephyrs or winged folk since I'm not Christian) holding up a star which has been done with chalk pastels on the street. If angels/ winged folk aren't fantasy, then I have to wonder why they are in the list of theme options on the submission page under "Angels, Religious, Spiritual, Holy". :-/ This was my square at Houston's Via Colori street painting festival, a new charity event for the Center for Hearing and Speech which helps deaf children learn to communicate without sign language. I went out there with no idea what I was going to do which was weird and humorous because most folks out there were actually gridding out planned images based on previously made art. I had no clue what I was doing even when I started laying down color. Originally, I had thought of doing a mermaid and it ended up being this. LOL! I had to learn the technique as I went since I had never done this before. The watercolor-like blending was achieved by laying the pastel down, lightly spraying it with water and then smearing it around with my rubber glove covered hands. This kind of festival goes on in a number of cities across the US and some places in Europe, too. If you ever get the chance to participate in one, grab it! There's nothing quite like working on a 6 foot by 6 foot square of pavement with the full knowledge that eventually a street cleaner will wash away your work. LOL It's actually loads of fun |
