The equine half looks splendid - one thing you could do is make bulkier shoulders on the horse part. *~i say this tentatively because the chest is already so well done~* it looks as though the human part is carrying lower than the midsection and blending in with the horse body when the shoulders are small like you've drawn - which is unique and terrific on its own... Either way i'm rambling - wonderful splendid pic.

Also look at a picture of a man's body, draw it, then again and again. Enjoy every realistic detail you put on paper and remember it. I will now be looking on some. J.C. Besner replies: "Thanks for the tips. Wish I had time to draw the same animal and person endlessly. Unfortunately, I need to make money so I can eat and do other things, so I don't have time to be drawing that much. Too bad..."
| 11 Apr 2003 | Wangdoodel | Loading...Overall, wonderful, however I think the upper human body is disproportional to the horse half. If they are the same, then big muscles are fine, but either they need to be slimmed down, or the horse need to buck up! wonderful drawing. LOVE THE SPEAR! | |

| 17 Oct 2003 | Goran Tomic | Loading...See, his right biceps is so visible, it is as if he has bent his arm in a very sharp angle. Try it yourself in front of a mirror. Look when your biceps contracts that much.. it is only when you bend your forarm in a sharp angle, so you need to stretch that biceps a bit, so that you get a feeling that he is supporting the spear holding that end of it down, while pulling the other end up. Notice the form of his left arm, it is a sharp angle, and muscles act accordingly - perfect. So what you are looking for here is a stretched arm that would support a twist in the spear, that will in turn arch a bit at contact with flesh, placing it firmly into the hand, without slipping. It is here where the power comes in and the spear becomes just a tool and the centaur becomes the center of the emotion of strength. Then we can talk about supporting this emotion with a centaurs best asset: strong and supportive horse legs. J.C. Besner replies: "Wow...once again, thanks for the frank assessment. Although I'll consider your words next time I draw something similar, I don't think I'll modify this one." | |
| 17 Oct 2003 | Goran Tomic | Loading...Disproportional to the horse half? It's a centaur, not like you can proportionate one since they do not exist.
I have had another look at this. Horse body set aside, the human body is very good. But you need to put that right forarm in place. Cover it with your hand and take a look at the rest of the drawing. You will know that that forearm needs new life to it.. And by what I can see, you can do 10 times as good, so just redo it. Take a look in the mirror, just look at your forearm, the elbow connection. Then think how his forearm would look. Then draw it.
