This is my own version of the birth of Venus. I tried to incorporate some of her symbols such as the shell, dove and ivy into the picture in a tasteful manner; hopefully I succeeded ^^ I used a reference of Marylin Monroe for the pose, but the picture itself was inspired by a tour of gods and goddesses by Jason Ellis!

Oct. '04 ~ update ~ I revised her face (a little more to my liking) and I made a few alterations to her body as suggested in a few comments. I like her better now, thanks to all for your encouraging and helpful comments!

Hey, a little artistic nudity never harmed a soul. and don't you HATE anonymous commenters? they should show theirs is better(i doubt it is)

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "I know what you mean, but you get used to it after a while and just concentrate on the nice and helpful comments! Thanks sweetie!"

you know what, I'm just gonna flat out say it, because we have all been thinking teh same thing here. well, all the guys... I think... *bows* WE'RE NOT WORTHY OF YOUR AWESOMEFULNESS!! WE ARE BUT PUNY MORTALS IN THE TRAPAGE OF HUMAN FLESH!!*bows again*

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "*huggles* You always make me smile!"

AWESOME! May I note that in the venus di milo she was not so skinny. the idea that sexy goddesses should be paper thin is totally outrageos. No offense, but is the truth. You are a good artist.

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "Thanks Hannah for your keen observation. And, if you believe it, I had every intention of making her larger than she turned out. She didn't look quite right in the beginning, and she kept getting thinner and thinner. I've been thinking about revising this whole picture; I fixed her leg recently, but I also think she would look better a little bit larger. Thanks for your honesty in your opinion!"

her arm that has the hand sitting on her hip is kinda wrong, and your anatomy is a lil off
BUT
its still a beautiful drawing, and her HAIR its amazing

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "*sigh* Oh, how I love to draw hair!
You're right, her anatomy is a little off, I've made little fixes to her here and there but am comtemplating revising the whole thing. I think she could stand to put on a little weight *hee hee* Thanks for your honest opinion too!"

Bellybutton!?!?!?!

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "Well, the way I see it, she was born of the sea foam and there for had no umbilical cord. We only have belly buttons because we had cords; no cord, no belly button."

Actualy I would say that this really isnt as bad as you seem to think. I really think she looks alright, and Im pretty sure the romans picture of her body was a little exaagerated but Oh well... I'd say she turned out pretty good, a lot better than my people I can't even make them even slightly realistic. I'd say this is a good pic!! Keep up the awesome work!!1

:-) Rachael Evans replies: "Thanks lil' elf! That means a lot to me ^^"
