A picture of Galen, a character from my upcoming web comic, Kentauroi, striking a pose. I experimented some with the background, hope you like it. :)

You can see the progress of this picture in a slideshow, here

And you can purchase prints and merchandise at my Cafepress shop

Really? I just make my centaur’s ears horse-like and different from my elves because I dislike the whole making other races like mermaids and nymphs and satyrs have elf ears, because it makes them look like they’re just offshoots of elves, but then again its their imaginations.

:-) Jill Johansen replies: "in this case though, they ARE offshoots of elves. they were created (and controlled) by magic, transforming humans and elves into centaurs long ago (in most cases...) as a slave race. Punishment for people who broke the law, captured soldiers, etc. The perfect worker and fighter. I know there are some people out there who would not consider this a ’punishment’ but... A centaur is not something that would likely evolve naturally, so I went the magic route, and am using it as a method to explore themes of racism. This is all very central to the plot in my story. (and no, this isn’t really much of a spoiler, all this is broken down in the first few pages) I just think the horse ears look funny. I’ve never really been ’into’ centaurs before I had the odd dream that started all this. I did the sculpture that’s also up in my gallery (for my sister because she is a Sagitarius and was BIG into astrology at the time) and besides that, I drew one other centaur, ever, and that was just a sketch. But when I started I looked around and the horse ear thing just looked weird to me. The mane thing, I could go for that (I’m not, but they’re clothed 99% of the time, anyway, so you could pretend I am for all I care) but the horse ears... most people stuck them on top of the head, which meant you had to cover the place the human ears would go because a blank spot on the side of the head would look funny, so they have to have long hair that can never EVER blow in the wind. If you put them on the side of their head, well, I just don’t like the look. "

Awesome! Don’t worry about the elf ears (re: above comments.) I have to agree that it’s better than looking at horse ears on a man’s head. It’s cool to see an armored centaur in action for a change.

VERY awesome pic. One of the best renderings of a centaur I’ve ever seen, seriously. I also don’t like the horse ear thing. I like the color choice too and the tail is one of my favorite details. It’s sad though, to be turned into a centaur. I know it’s something I’d want to avoid, lol.

Didn’t you have this picture up earlier? Anyway, it’s awesome and totally deserves a mods choice!! 1 I love the motion in it, the colours and the unique leather armour! Very very well done! 11

Woof! Man is he one good looking peice of Centaur...when did you say your comic was coming out?

:-) Jill Johansen replies: "Web comic, and it’s delayed for a bit, some family issues, moving my online store and commissions have taken precedence. I’m not going to give a set date, cus I know I’ll never stick to it, but it will be at least a month. "

i bet this sounds pretty stupid but... What is the difference between a Kenotauri (or however you spell it.) and a centaur? i’m guessing that its just two different names but hey who said i’m always right??

:-) Jill Johansen replies: "Kentauroi is just the ancient Greek word for centaur, nothing special. It actually translates literally into ’bull slayer’. I guess the Greeks thought of them as bull fighters? Go figure. (as an aside, they had different terms for males and females, females are Kentauride) I basically needed a title for the comic that would boil down to a short and simple domain name, it sounded nice, and thought it would work to call them that in the comic too.... (though I have since discovered many people find it hard to spell, so it kinda backfired)"
