| 5 Sep 2003 | Shaaman | Loading...always ignore anyone who tells you that you cannot draw, are not or will never be an artist... instead suggest they go look at the work of Bacon, or Lowry,Beardsley or even Picasso...Picasso could draw like Raphael and chose not to..... Maybe those who like to judge the work of others so harshly need to learn a little about art so they realise it is not simply perfection of shade or line, but rather it is about the expression and pleasure it brings the person who draws and those who view it..keep your pencils sharp and your brushes clean..and keep on drawing | |

The one thing I would recommend is to draw what you see and coodinate the hand with the eye. There's a great book called 'drawing on the right side of the brain' - buy it, or get it from the library. Most important of all draw everything, and I mean everything. Good luck with your art adventure

I'm actually going to start taking art lessons, which is going to help since I taught myself and never have learned any actually techniques... Also like Shaaman said up there, Picasso was a brilliant artist by the time he was 13 he was doing things that older more trained men and women couldn't do...but he ended up chosing to do things that were abstract and very stylized...so you do what you know how to do and what you want to do and hey you might be the next Picasso... *smiles*

| 19 Dec 2004 | Amy Nicholls | Loading...I promised on my page that I would check out your's. I think that you have very nice work. One thing that I would like to offer you is to include background. Your characters are lovely, but they lack enviroment. You could add a whole new demention to your work if they had something, or 'where' to interact with. Also, if realism is what you aspire to do, remember that with drawing, there is no such thing as a line( there is only light and shadow). Lines are a tool to create a 3D space(to make an illusion) Don't let your lines be the only thing that makes your drawing,(unless it's intensional) let them work with shading to create space in your work. Over all, I love your ideas. I can tell by the number of works that you enjoy what you do, and all I can say is to keep it up. We all have things to improve on. | |
