There was a merchant that was determined that his son would wear the finest clothes, have the best of education, and grow to be a well respected man. The boy however despite all of his father's attention remained depressed and unhappy. One day, on his birthday, his father gave him the most unusual of gifts. A living mermaid! The boy seeing that mermaid herself was miserable with her glass prison, dicided that he would set both them both free. So one night, without his father knowledge he snuck the mermaid out to a small boat by docks. It was very stormy that night and it was not long before the tiny craft was flipped over tossing both of them into the sea. The mermaid swam to save him, but it was already to late, the boy had drowned. Noticing a flute laying on ocean sands below the sea, she began to play a sad, sad melody.

A quick question, why is the dude wearing renasaunce clothes while the aquarium is obviously modern? aside from that great pic and story, I love all your stuff.

First of all nice concept, I do think though that Erica's extention on to the ending though is cool. The pic does have the desired affect of having one feel for the mermaid.

So when she started to play the flute did the boy wake from his sudden death and she see bubbles and save him with her everlasting breath from the air in the water she filtered out from her hidden gills? That would be a nice descriptive ending to this.

Your stories are making me so sad. But I like sad stories for some unknown reason. It's good for someone to cry every now and then.
