| 16 Jun 2010 | Portia S Subran | Loading...Sir, you are too amazing for words, I think my mind loses itself while looking at your works. I feel a sense of ultimate joy knowing someone of your great talent graces us here at elfwood. Joel N. Barkley replies: "You are very kind. I am flattered and honored to have made such an impression with my art. That is, after all, why I work so hard over the years to refine my style. Thank you." | |
| 16 Jun 2010 | Richard La Pierre | Loading...Diverse, chaotic and calm all at the same time, I enjoyed your gallery very much. Joel N. Barkley replies: "Many thanks for stopping by!" | |
| 18 Jun 2010 | Ida Widell | Loading...Wow! fantastic artwork indeed! I really love your sensitive lighting, how you get kind of a glow in your pieces, especially your skies! Amazing! And as i followed your discussion with Touba Guerroumi i am totally amazed of how you seem to be able to swich off that probably constant swirl of thoughts and just let theese feelings come throgh in form of colours and forms in your paintings, or am i wrong?! are the paintings totally planed and measured to make people like me get paralysed with existential agony? anyway, truly great! Joel N. Barkley replies: "No way! My paintings are a veritable battlefield of push and pull! Some happen very fluidly, with a kind of general idea guiding the way, but most of the time the process is like being in a round room in the dark and then trying to find the corners! It is maddening! I’m not exaggerating. Really. As far as your "existential agony" goes I’m afraid that existence isn’t at issue, but rather the permanence of your consciousness. Eternity is a really long time, so I have heard, how does one design a system that extends beyond the corporeal to survive it? Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave such a perfectly wonderful review!! You made my day! Peace!" | |

| 14 Apr 2011 | Katherine Deros | Loading...You sir! Haven’t uploaded in too long. Hope all is well with you old friend. :] Cheers Mr Barkley, best wishes. Kath~ Joel N. Barkley replies: "Dear Lady Katherine, What a pleasant surprise to see your email first thing this morning! I had to check the dates to be sure and my last up load to Elfwood was Sept. 2010. So 6 months ago. But to be fair it has been too long since I have done a painting, which interestingly enough, I have been working towards changing. I am in the process of putting together a new series of Gatekeepers, which have been long over due! I am well and keeping busy. How are you? How is school?" | |
| 15 Apr 2011 | Katherine Deros | Loading...OooOOooooOOOooh Moar Gatekeepers yes yes! I Love this series soooo much! Well now im even more excited to see your next updates sir! Anyhow, school’s okay. Changing programs, used to be in 3D animation, and after a year and a half of being less and less motivated to put so much of myself into it, i decided to switch to Illustration&Design at a new school. Found out i was accepted just yesterday, too, and noticed it’s also your specialty lol, I thought that was cool =p So I’m guessing I’ll be able to upload some art around november I’m currently spending literally all my time working 2 jobs ... and all that stuff heheh. I’m happy you’re still actually around, I wasn’t expecting a reply so soon. Never stop wht you do! Cheers Mr Joel :] | |

| 8 Oct 2012 | Shenandoah S Wrobel | Loading...I greatly admire your artwork. As much as I like digital art, nothing compares to the finesse and respectability of traditional media, which you master. I love the drama, and the concepts, and the colors! Ah, the colors. So lovely... I’m rather vexed at you for taking up so much space in my favorites gallery. Grrrr, life’s hard! Oh, wait, the little voice behind me is telling me that life’s awesome. What’s that? No! I will NOT write that on the internet! Gosh, alternate egos are annoying, right? Anyway, stay awesome and don’t let me (or anyone else) distract you from your art. Sincerely, Shenandoah Joel N. Barkley replies: "Thank you so much for your kind words! You made my morning! Have a fabulous day" | |
| 18 Oct 2012 | Shenandoah S Wrobel | Loading...Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comments. I know many artists who think they’re too good to talk to us amateurs. I think I’ll go check out your website. Joel N. Barkley replies: "You are very welcome! I wouldn’t have stayed with my art and kept practicing all these years if I hadn’t been encouraged by a few people. That you are reaching out to other artists means you are well on your way to a fantastic future filled with art and creativity. When I was young there was no internet and I was truly on my own. I had to be my own cheerleader. I am glad to see people like yourself really utilizing their resources! Keep going! And thank you again for writing." | |
