Inspired by descriptions from a few different stoires by H.P. Lovecraft, The one that stands out as the primary source would have to be 'The Rats in the Walls.' Lovecraft`s main characters often find themselves unexpectedly stumbling into such places.

U must have lots of patients but its boring
u worked to hard for so little whats the point of the pic?
-no offence-

:-) John R. McCue replies: "Again, no offense taken.. I can understand that someone might look at this and not "get it" whatever "it" is supposed to be... But it is by no means a waste of my time, This is one of my favorites. I draw things that i`m inspired to or that interest me, I cant predict how others will like them, thats why I post them, To see what ppl think. "

WOW!!I think i need a few swear words to express my amazement!!This detail is mindblowing! The effort and detail is stunning.I can see why u would put so much time into the pic,I mean it makes me just stare in hororr and think"Look how deep those rocks are embedded in skulls"It portrays such a beautifully horrific image.Keep it up,your talent is amazing!!!!!

wow, this must have taken forever! i really the love the perspective, how we're kinda lookin up at it. Can I ask, what's going through your head when you draw something like this?

:-) John R. McCue replies: "I guess what I thinking in this one was trying to capture a bit of that H.P. horror of "What would I least like to stumble across in a huge underground caven." "

Cool Drawing - must have take a lot of time and patience. Can I see a final skull in the picture or is it a trick of the light 1

Who's going to clean up the mess? How long did it take to do all the skulls? Good work.

With all of today's fancy "color" art and those blasted grey-scale pictures, i's nice to see someone still producing brilliant pictures in real black and white.
I'll spare the Eddie Izzard jokes about this being the biggest henge anyone has ever seen.
But seriously, I love the pic. The surreal sky goes a long way to contrast the (relatively) realistic skulls and the henge.
