A young centaur on a casual stroll on the plains. This was intended mainly as a study in horse anatomy and is yet another demonstration of how lazy I am when it comes to backgrounds! Watersoluable pencils finished with a light wash to bring out the colour.

Lovely picture! The horse body is nice, it looks like the body of Quarter horse but maybe that's just me 2

1 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Thank you, It's encouraging to have a positive comment on this - especially from someone who knows horses. I don't know what breed of horse it is - I was too fixated on his legs!"

It looks to me, judging from the perspective of this particular piece, that the front legs should be a tad bit longer. The color is beautiful and it's a great (and difficult) position to practice with.

2 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "I think the problem could be the way I've drawn that back leg - the hoof is off the ground as the leg moves forward but maybe that is not so clear and makes it look too long. Thanks for pointing that out - I'll work on my perspective!"

I like the simple background as it is!!! His head looks a little big for the torso to me, but I could be wrong. I don't know anything about horse anatomy (Well, except that the tails go at the back and the legs at the bottom) so it looks great to me! Well done!

2 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Thanks for stopping by, Kylie. His head isn't too big - his body's too narrow. Should have fed him better!"

your coloring style is very nice. I like the warm color scheme

2 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Thanks! It's supposed to be autumnal colours but without the coldness of the season - I hate the cold!"

very good with the horse part.one deal though,is that it almost looks like a pony body with the legs being small for the body.(I've been around horses for 1/2 my life :/ I cant look at horse pics without pointing out things wrong anymore XD)Anyways great job on it though. But one thing I noticed with the human part is his hands seem...small.not deformed or anything.just small. ^.^ better than I could ever do though.

12 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Yeah his hands are a bit small and I think his human part looks a bit big compared to the horse part. Let's pretend he is very young and his horse body hasn't caught up yet!"

Oooh, beautiful! I love the colours, and the anatomy...I always find centaurs to be so difficult! Great job!

11 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Thanks, Elizabeth. The human bit is a bit odd sized, but the horse part is better! Glad you like it. "

Reminds me of a centor off narneia!(thats a good thing)

18 Rachel E. Johnstone replies: "Narnia! I read all those when I was in junior school and now I'm reading them again! Don't know why they made the witch in the movie blonde, though."
