John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, George. Yes, gotta ruin it with the copyright notice. The tower in front is where the bridge and command center is. The two squared ones in the back are weapons. | 4 Sep 2008 | Tomislav Korade | Loading...That is one big tank! In the future, tanks would probably be obsolete, but where is the fun in that? Fun first, realism second. That is the way how scifi should be and that is my favorite way. Great details and shading, the shadows are superb. One question: the name - "Sorbian Imperial Republic", was it inspired by Serbia or Russia perhaps? I´m just curios cause I tend to use inspiration from real life and countries as well. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Tomislav. Yes, this is a huge tank, and if it were up to real life, we wouldn’t have anything at all. We don’t have star ships either.
As to the name, "Sorbian." See, I thought I made that up and was being clever. Then a few months ago I Googled it and it’s a real word! LOL. It’s actually a country or area between Poland and Russia I think. "
| 26 Oct 2008 | Tan Zu Puayen | Loading...Somewhat reminds me of Star Wars- in a more smooth/curved package XD Or maybe the shuttle mobile launchpad. I wonder how many miles to the gallon it can do- powered by turbine? diesel piston? Have you thought of the method to transport this beast deep into enemy territory? I think air transport is out of question lol. Maybe a large barge. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Tan Zu. I’m kind of reminded of a bucket wheel excavator with something this large. But I can see perhaps how it could remind you of a highly stylized Jawa Sand Crawler.
Now for the fuel, would be perhaps nuclear energy as it’s MPG rating would be horrible. Several gallons of gas would be needed just to start the thing.
The tank is used mostly for open air battles such as grasslands and deserts. The only issue is transport. Large drop-ships orbiting a planet are used to bring the tanks to a planet’s surface. This is a clenched-fist, white-knuckle affair for both rookies and seasoned drop-ship pilots. The ship that transports these tanks are not less than mile-long space battleships. "
| 10 Nov 2008 | Russel russ lavis | Loading...Looks like a Jawa Sandcrawler crossed with a Jagdpanzer! John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks for the comparison of both, had to look up Jagdpanzer. I wanted the tank big and massive. Although it is surprisingly agile as each tread can rotate independently and each has its own engine. " | |
| 15 Nov 2008 | Reeve Boles | Loading...Yo! I’m diggin’ this line-work! What did you use for the shading and battle scars? John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Reeve. I used warm-gray Prisma color markers for the shading and a roller ball, black ink pen for the battle scars. I’d put an excess amount of ink down, then smudge it with my finger, or while still wet, smear it. " | |
| 2 Jan 2009 | Richard Gustav Risch | Loading...I got news for you, any enemy can stop this tank! All they have to do is raise the price of gasoline to $5.00 a gallon and the Sorbian Imperial Republic will go bankrupt outside of a day. LOL!!!! John R Farley Jr replies: "Ha ha! Yes this is true. But that’s why the Sorbians don’t use gasoline or diesel for their vehicles. This is kind of like a land-based battleship or nuclear powered rolling aircraft carrier. " | |

| 16 Jun 2009 | Kimberly A Taylor | Loading...i feel i ought to comment on this one, as i haven’t yet *shame on me* i really like the huge treads on this beast. The Empire in star wars should have used something like this, those AT AT walkers were just too wobbly. ther’d be no chance of this toppling over. I’m beginning to think about ground combat vehicles; somewhere along the lines of a hover tank-well not exactly a tank, i suppose more of a drop ship-gunship. i’ll see how it goes. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Kimberly. Yes, this tank is quite massive and hard to beat unless bigger guns can keep firing upon it.
Oh cool You would do a great job with designing a tank or gunship or hovercraft type vehicle."
| 24 Jul 2009 | MT Starkey | Loading...Awesome tank. Good design. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Mr. Starkey. The fun part was trying to come up with the design that would suggest power. " | |
| 23 Aug 2009 | Trish Harold | Loading...That is fantastic engineering. And a great description with the scale. I thought that dot was on my screen! I can’t imagine the noise that thing would make. This must have taken you a while to figure out the design on this! John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Patricia. The sound I figured this would make wouldn’t be loud so much as you could feel the power. Like a well-crafted and expensive car, it’s not so much loud, but you can sense it’s power and how well it’s been put together. But the sheer size of this tank would make it loud and I’m sure there would be small seismic vibrations, while it traveled at high speed to the next battle. " | |
