[[a dragon flies into an engine]] John R Farley Jr replies: "The track leading to the pipe, is for a train. The pipe is an empty flashlight. Behind that is an opaque white plastic strip lighted underneath with two bulbs. The clear thing with the four holes, leads to a cone shape, the nose of a model airplane where the propeller would go, then there’s a lighted plastic disk. That’s a slug from the manufacture of compact discs. To the right of the thing with the four holes is a long rod, and to the right of that is a curved structure. That’s from an electric shaver.

| 21 Feb 2008 | John R. McCoy | Loading...Can you email me or return to this message with a more detailed description..Ive seen models of ships like the titanic....and all the cables, heaters, venilation boxes, ect. look similar to these...I would love for you to explain more of what look in this spaceship you are going for....I have been close minded slightly by all the smaller vessel type space ships...is this inside of an outer shell, and if people or aliens operate this machinery or atleast control the ship itself....basically, I’d love for you to do a bit of blueprint style picture of one of these scenes....and have you put details such as aliens or humans as size reference...I love this idea, and I’m INTERESTED! John R Farley Jr replies: "To start, those train tracks you see are exactly to scale of what you would see if this was real. This part represents an area about two-football fields wide. But according to my math, it might have to be larger / wider. The model itself is four-feet square and some 16 inches deep.
Now what you’re looking at is the stern quarter of the ship. The entire ship would be 3,600 feet or about one-kilometer long. Refer to my Ship and Crystals painting and you will see what I tried to paint.
Now what it IS is sort of like a heat sink for the engines below. I have this idea that humans built the smooth bulk of the ship, and aliens built this part.

| 21 Feb 2008 | John R. McCoy | Loading...PS-the design and idea are very awesome...but it is so complicated, thats why I wish youd draw a blueprint type pic for me Also these ships have always reminded me of circuit boards John R Farley Jr replies: "I don’t have and didn’t use blue prints. I just put a wooden box together, wired it up and glued a bunch of parts together. The only real work came with making the main engine bell cylinders. That was a blessing when I walked into a plastics store and in the extras rack were these two large diameter plastic pipes. I bought them, took them home, cut them up, cut out four circles of wood, mounted one tube inside the other, painted them silver on the inside and black on the outside. Toilet drains make great engine mounts. :c) So that’s what I used. " | |
| 22 Feb 2008 | Norma Peters | Loading...I can only imagine the work that went into producing this. The detail is amazing. More importantly, it looks real, workable, as if these items all belonged together. John R Farley Jr replies: "Oh yes, it was a lot of work. Even so, it was fun to set up and build, thanks, Norma. | 23 Feb 2008 | Richard H. Patton | Loading...The intricacy is a wonderful thing! It sets the imagination wandering down the prospect of starship battles and long, long voyages. The lighting in this pic is terrific! I’m glad you gave us so many views of this tremendous project. I like it! John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks Richard, that’s exactly what this ship is about. Long voyages and adventures. Big battles and large cargo loads. With a model like this, there were many views I could present, and still more to be had. Welcome aboard! " | |

lovely
great imagination
u should work with hr giger
u’dd be great .
creat some alien themes in ure style. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks Valentious. I’m better at machines and such. I’ve tried aliens, but they don’t look very good yet. I’ll keep trying though. "
| 16 May 2008 | Elsa R. Oakley | Loading...oooooooooooooooh! I looked at it for ages. It’s so complex. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Elsa. I was fun to just randomly glue stuff and see what I could make. " | |
| 28 Jun 2008 | Deja Thoughtalog walters | Loading...It looks like you could easily get lost on this ship I certainly hope they have a good search and rescue team on board. When I see this picture it makes me think of all the little details hidden on the sets of so many movies. Do you have any particular details that are your favorites? John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Deja. This part has one of the main engines housed under it, so you probably wouldn’t want to spend too much time in this area. Let’s see, my favorite parts are the lighted areas, I’m rather proud of the light bar on the right. I used two model car stabilizer bars to hold up a clear plastic rod. The I put two clear Christmas lights at either end to make it glow. Looks better in the dark. " | |
| 22 Sep 2008 | Oswald Johnathon Levesque | Loading...THAT’S AWESOME! GOOD JOB! It looks just like my house John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Oswald. So your house looks like this? Check out the last in this series, Stern of Ship, All Lights and Engines. Sure to blow your mind. " | |
| 23 Oct 2009 | Tom Draco Noir Taylor | Loading...Always amazing! It just needs a deep space background to be totally convincing- I just saw Space Odyssey 2010(HaHa- it’s going to all happen in just a few months!) and throughout , thought "John’s models look better than some of this stuff!" Of course , it was good work, but they were very well paid professional model makers, and you just do this for fun! And the enjoyment of all of us who see it. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks Tom. When I get better at digital art, I might try this again.
It’s too bad all we got by the time 2001 came around was terrorism and better cell phones. No houses that cleaned themselves, no trips to Jupiter or Mars. We squandered everything we learned and wasted time on stupid nonsense. Can’t go to the moon, but we absolutely must know Paris Hilton’s every move. "
