This was a class project. We had to draw a fantasy machine using different objects and textures. This one got the most comments. The device on the left is a reel-to-reel one-inch video playback machine, the kind used in TV studios and broadcast houses.  The hand and fingers are mine, the power source is a 9-volt battery and all it does is blow bubbles.

Now that’s a bubble blower. Can we pick one of those up at Wal-mart. Delightful idea.

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Patricia. Wal-Mart doesn’t sell these. You have to go to Brookstones or Sharper Image to get one of these. 18"

Now this is kwl 1 The motion is really shown awesomly here 1 . What I also noticed with your pics is that you draw reflection and shiny -ness very well !!

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Jack. When I was learning to draw, all I wanted to do was shiny or clear objects. So the practice paid off. "

The bubbles may have been simple to draw but they are really effective. I like the spinning propeller thingy; it is really well drawn too.

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Elsa. My favorite effects to make are shiny or see-through objects, and creating a sense of motion when possible. "

This has a bit of a "Forbidden Planet" feel to it...
I’m not ashamed to say, I am terrified...

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Chris. So this reminds you of the Krell supercomputer? It’s really just a collection of "stuff." I’ve seen Forbidden Planet, a classic. "

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Jennie. Wow, two Jens in a row. 18 This was a fun homework assignment. "

Great Job, john....Looks like something used to treat a toxic waste dump!!!!! Lol!!!!! Bubbles....only you John....

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Brendon. Or maybe it produces toxic waste, while having absolutely no other function. "

Wow this is awsome. It’s like you’re right there. Great piece.

2 May 2011:-) Kristen Heritage
the machine has this quirky, Rube Goldberg-esqe feel to it. All the textures here are very well executed, especially the metallic ones...
and the bubbles. 2
love it.

:-) John R Farley Jr replies: "Thank you, Kristen. Yes, I wanted to draw several different textures and surfaces for this project. "
