John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Désirée. I like that people get different thoughts about this picture. It’s usually what I think when I hear the song. "

"Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we’re born
Into this world we’re thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm."

Yes the dog is the "dog without a bone," part of the lyric. Music has a big influence on my art sometimes. "
| 6 May 2008 | Vilde D. Ulriksen | Loading...Gah, I just love the mountains... They are really beautiful. Me luv mountains, I guess I live in the right place... The rest of the pic is great too, one of your best traditional work, I think. Awesome, rainy colours, cool details and great concept! And I love the sky too! Me luv the sky too XDXD Ok, I’ll stop now... John R Farley Jr replies: "Oh please keep going! I agree, mountains are my favorite land feature to look at and paint. If you come to North America, look up Banff, Canada or the Rocky Mountain out in the Western US. Great country. The Canyonlands are awesome too, a few kilometers deep and 60-70 km in length. Rainy skies and thunderstorms are my favorite things too, thanks for coming. You should listen to the song sometime. " | |
| 6 Jan 2009 | Oswald Johnathon Levesque | Loading...That’s such a neat painting-I always wondered how people got to make a picture look like there is actually rain in it...It’s impossible for me to draw a circle! How do you draw rain! John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks Oswald. Part of creating a mood or look in a painting is also creating the lighting. I used a lot of grey in the sky, and muted the greens in the general landscape. To do the rain drops, I touched a brush to the canvass and quickly flicked or moved the brush across, making sure I’m going in the same direction all the time. To get the reflections on the pavement, I watered the paint down and just copied the object. This gives the illusion of a wet or polished surface. swirling the brush and paint give the look of a stormy sky and a light thin coat of white can be made to look like mist. " | |
| 5 Feb 2009 | Tomislav Korade | Loading...This is great, you got he mood just right. Great song, classic. You did a great job with the asphalt, it looks real. It is nice to see someone else is inspired by music, I am always listening to music when I draw, even now when I type this comment... John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks, Tomislav. What song were you listening to? Yes, music has a big influence on what I do. If you have or can find it, listen to Come Sail Away by Styx. Great song. And if you like guitar work go with Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. " | |
| 6 Feb 2009 | Tomislav Korade | Loading...I listened to "Moj Grad"(My Town) by Thompson. It´s about a warrior who lost his home, and now he is a refugee. All he wants is to come back to his home so he prays to the God....Great song. Sad part is that it is true story and can be applied to many Croatian defenders from the Homeland war... If you want to hear it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2tbZDMFHXE. It´s on Croatian so you will not understand it, but I can send you translation if you want. I´ll definetly search for those songs you mentioned. John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. " | |
| 5 Sep 2009 | Tom Draco Noir Taylor | Loading...Great picture, and I can hear the song clear as a bell in my head when I look at it. And only a fan of thunderstorms could capture that mood the way you did! John R Farley Jr replies: "Thanks Tom. It was my goal to create a the look and mood I’ve always felt when I heard that song.
Love of thunderstorms? I think I’m addicted to them. "
