| 28 Dec 2006 | Lindzi V. Sayles | Loading...Is this a self portrait? hehe I think it is. I think it is a lovely peice, his eyes look so innocent and young, and he has a very nice six pack. The background is very good to say it was just slapped together, when will you put the finished peice up? is it finished? John R Wenzel replies: "Any resemblance between the artist and character is purely coincidental; though when I started work on Artix all I had was a full-length mirror and myself for reference . . . *smirk*
Thank you, that’s very nice of you to say.
Barring any more mishaps, he should be finished by sometime around mid 2007."

I know, they're disproportionate to the facial geometry . . . Hair! - The bane of my existence. "
| 11 Nov 2007 | Deborah Flyinghorse Sutherlin | Loading...Nice piece! Your attention to muscular detail is very nice. The only comment I would make as someone who knows the equine, is the left front hoof should bend back toward the back leg rather than outward, according to equine anatomy and movement. Keep working! After all it is about contribution not competition! Be blessed and man those pencils, brushes and paints! LOL John R Wenzel replies: "Thank you.
That leg has been driving me nuts for a while, hopefully should have it corrected before long."
| 9 Dec 2007 | Zabina Nilsson | Loading...Really good! Especially the human body! as some people mentioned, and as you know, one of the legs doesn't look great.. but I'm sure you'll get that right too John R Wenzel replies: " Thank you very much!
I really have to fix that soon, it bothers me every time I look at it."

| 14 Sep 2008 | Lena V. Bazhenova | Loading...This definitely looks promising! It’ll be nice to see it when it’s finished And if I may give a critique, there’s something off about that front leg that’s bent (sorry if it was already mentioned, I haven’t read the previous coments). Maybe look at some equine anatomy books? I’m sure those could be a big help John R Wenzel replies: "Thank you, hopefully it won’t be too long before the piece is finalized.
And yes . . . I know… The leg.

| 1 Dec 2008 | Sam Adams | Loading...Wow he looks strong! I bet he’s very popular with the ladies! John R Wenzel replies: "I tried to balance the strength and muscularity between the human and hoarse physiologies; from a practical standpoint the human half would have quite strong to avoid catastrophic injury in day to day situations.
And they don’t call ‘em stallions for nothing . . . "
| 2 Dec 2008 | John R Farley Jr | Loading...Very good work on the musculature, and a cool picture overall. John R Wenzel replies: "Thank you!
Initially, he started out as a centaur figure study; he sort of spontaneously evolved during the process.
Hopefully it will look better once the final background is put in place."
