This is a piece based on a story by Nicki Greenson. She used a myth about Crow, who used trickery to steal the sun, moon and stars from the first man. The first man had a beautiful daughter, and Crow transformed himself into a pine needle in her drink. When she swallowed the pine needle she became pregnant and gave birth to Crow. In the guise of a boy, Crow played with the sun, moon and stars and 'accidently' lost each through the window.

I could have kicked myself when I was halfway done watercoloring and realized I drew her carrying too high - I guess I forgot about her ribcage. Doh! Well, it's not like I've ever been pregnant before. I wouldn't know.

1-00, colored ink, watercolor, 9x12 watercolor paper

Some women do carry quite high, so don't worry! It's an amazing pic!

Yeah, maybe it's a boy. (Wait, you said it was a boy. So she could carry it high.)

I think I have commented on this one before, but can't find my comment. So just to say the most important thing - your coloured stuff is as amazing as your monochromatic pencil picturres. You have a huge mass of talent 2

:-) Jennie Seay replies: "You're too kind - I sort of think this one stinks, as far as color goes. I have some newer color work that is much, much better. "

Actually the top of her belly is just fine, i looked like that when i was pregnant, it's the bottom that is odd, a baby rests on the hips, so the belly should curvefrom the pubic bone, not mid belly, but hey first try, make a mistake, get chewed on by the world, and do it right next time lol. Good work.

Actually I think you did quite well, and as for the way the belly looks, all midwives know that boys are carried higher up giving the appearance of a thicker upper belly (instead of a thicker lower belly for a girl). So wether you knew that or not the way you placed the belly is correct in accordance with the tale. Keep up the good work.

I'm not so sure if the boys carry high thing is true, but i've seen pics of women carrying babies high (and i remember my cousin's wife carrying high when she was pregnant), making the stomach look like it's right under the breasts almost, so you did fine 2

This is really good, it's an excellent picture which is beautifully drawn and painted. She is so beautiful too. I love it, excellent composition.
