I am very skeptical of yellow so I forced myself to use it in this picture. I like earth tones. I tend to stay away from bright colors. Hmm... I could reveal the other half of my face, but I might have to cast a spell of memory loss on you. "
| 10 May 2004 | Andrew Owens | Loading...First comment laugh WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!! ......sorry, I really like this piece. He's got really good muscle structure. The colors are also vibrant and clean. Very good work, keep it up!! Joann L. Shipp replies: "No apologies required. I am glad to have visitors. Thanks!! I like this piece myself. I am a very tough critic of my work. I am glad he looks masculine because I sometimes draw men too effeminate. I think what I am most pleased about is the detail I put into his sword. I wish I were better with backgrounds, but I tried not to make it plain. " | |
| 11 May 2004 | Layla Winkeler | Loading...This one I like best! Great coloring...Very offworldlike... Joann L. Shipp replies: "Thanks for dropping by! I plan on working on some more pieces involving this character. I really loved your artwork. I hope you will post more in the future. " | |
| 12 May 2004 | Stewart Good | Loading...I can't believe this was done on Photo-shop, it looks like oil. The yellow and blue work so well, I just wish I had more confidence when it comes to colouring my work. Joann L. Shipp replies: "Thanks! Yeah, I colored it in Photoshop. The background I did in Photoshop. Backgrounds are not my forte, but I striving to improve. " | |
| 24 May 2004 | Ramiro Pinto | Loading...Nice one It reminds me of Indie Theologic icons. The pose is excellent and the sword is very original.. Keep it up!! your other pieces need a tiny adjustment in proportions, but in the end is all about taste (!) Cheers Räm Joann L. Shipp replies: " Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate the critique. I feel my proportions do need work. As I try different stances, I start to realize my faults, but I just need more practice." | |
| 18 Jun 2004 | Meghanna Starsong | Loading...Good body structure and choice of colors. I like how they're muted, it's unique and brings out the idea of 'strong dogs don't need to bark' I like your style! Keep it up! Joann L. Shipp replies: "Thanks! I really had a lot of fun creating him. I tend to draw guys feminine. I was very pleased how he turned out. I just wish my background was bit more up to par." | |
| 6 Jul 2004 | John Ryan Byrd | Loading...The Pose is good, his expression is nice too, I really like the way you drew the eyes on this one. The colors are a little to bright for my taste and even though it has different colors, they are all the same value or close enough, to many midtones and not enough lights and darks, this picture could look alot better with more contrast.Even though the figures body does contrast nicely against the yello back ground, It looks like it is also part of the sky. I think the detail in the sword hilt and head piece is very exquisite. Joann L. Shipp replies: " Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, when I made this one, I was really just beginning to experiment with using a graphics program to paint.
I can see what you mean by too many midtones. I have to work on that.
I admit the colors are a bit bright even for me. But, I don't know.. it just came out that way. My hands did it. haha
The sword hilt and head piece were something very special to me because I was able to get around my ADD and complete the details."
| 13 Aug 2004 | Otto Arantes Pessanha | Loading...Yay! I love the concept. And it came out very good! All those details... O_O Joann L. Shipp replies: " When I have time in the future, I plan to compose a picture of just the sword because I love the design of the sword. I think I enjoy the sword more than the wielder. hehe! Thanks for stopping by. I am glad you liked my drawing. " | |

Shipp replies: " Luke is definitely a great artist. I really love his style. I hope that I can continue to develop my style as well as he does his own. Thank you for such a huge compliment, I am not sure if I am deserving, but I appreciate the encouragement. "
