Ovak Runestone is a half-orc priest of Kord, the god of bravery. The wisdom of Kord. Courage is the eternal assertion of freedom… Our thoughts, our words, and deeds are the invisible threads that flow through us and surround us with the strength of Kord, Kord is the guide who will show you how to face your fear, how to tap your innermost strength, and live in freedom. Through Kord… The might of our arms and courage of our brave hearts will be known! Let Kord set your heart free! Fear-weakness; courage-strength. Where there is fear, there is courage; and where there is courage there is fear. It is because there is Strength, that there is weakness; it is because there is weakness that there is strength… To understand courage, you must know fear; and to understand strength you must know weakness. The key is in finding the universal balance between fear and courage, strength and weakness. The path to absolute strength and courage is through fear and weakness, one must face fear and seek to understand it at its most fundamental and primal level. One must know that within fear lies the truth about courage, and within weakness lies the truth about strength. Fear holds the power of unlimited potential, it is what makes us as warriors quick, and strong, it focuses our mind, and when we embrace fear, and float in its endless void, we can see with clarity, and wisdom, and we are granted the ability to overcome any foe. We know that only through fear will we know perfect courage. Weakness also shows us the secrets of perfect Strength. Within our existence, nothing is more soft and yielding than water. Yet for attacking the solid and strong, nothing is better; it has no equal. The weak can overcome the strong; the supple can overcome the stiff. So through weakness can be achieved the greatest strength. These are the ways of Kord.

17 Jun 2001	Wxgoblin	Loading... Based on the "oath of Kord" written above I would imagine that this priest is a coward at heart who constantly attempts to overcome his fear. In that sense he is a true devotee of Kord (if you're not afraid then it isn't really courage is it?). At least that's the impression I get from his stance and facial expression. Then again I could be way off the mark... goblins aren't the brightest creatures in the world... The Artist: I wouldn't call him a coward, as he is not, nor would I say he is not bright, Ovak is very wise. He knows fear, and he constantly strives to understand it even deeper, the look on his face is more a look of deep sadness as he sees so many people around him afraid of what they don't understand.
20 Jun 2001	Brian Keith Cooke	Loading... The blade of the sword comes off as very bland compared to the wonderful shading on the rest of his body. I like the armor, though. Always looking for new ways to do armor.
20 Jan 2002	~Yana	Loading... I like his expression, I could totally tell you were going for a more contemplative/sad kind of look. The shading could use some work in certain areas, and where's his left ear? If they are that big the other one would show up a little even with his head turned. Other then that I really like how you portrayed him. Somehow I could tell he was one of your faves. Good job.
23 Apr 2002	Skyler	Loading... HMM.. I do say that this is very well done.. Ive read the other comments and well he does NOT seem "weak" he looks to be a grand cleric to his peoples and he seems almost wise for his obvious faulted race.. very well done
3 Aug 2002	Amy Rusty* Davis*	Loading... This guy is great! I wouldn't want ot mess with him, and he dosen't look like a coward at all! I mean I'm a cowerd, I know what they look like. And he defanetly looks strong. This picture is pirfect! He does look like he's seen alot, and he looks very wise. I say that this picture is wonderful. I love his sword, I can't draw sutch magnifacnt wepons for the life of me! Tis is just downright wonderful! Keep up all the great work!

Half-orcs were my favorite race until 3e butchered them down with an arbitrary intelligence penalty, which they felt balanced the strength bonus (thus making it pointless to play a half-orc for any reason other than taking advantage of a 20 strength at first level and being an all-out basher). I enjoyed playing the half-orc for role-playing purposes, as he was defined somewhat differently in 1e and 2e; being a dark and brooding tragic figure rather than an obscenly strong and stupid barbarian. That said, I love this piece. you've captured some the inherent sadness and depth that I've felt always went with this race.
