Basically an illustration to any Greek or Roman story you could think of, although I have The Odyssey in mind. The carving in the background is of Hestia, the goddess of fertility.

Whatttt!?!?! No comments?! This is totally awesome! Your watercolour teqnique is superb! I love the folds of the clothing, and the detail is wonderful, amazing work! Huzzah!

Hi! I find this very nice, pretty, but I think Demeter and Hera are the goddesses of fertility, Hestia is only goddess of Hearth and home pretty much, *goes off to re-read her Greek mythology* this could take a while I have A LOT of Greek mythology to re-read.

:-) Julianne Dodds replies: "Hestia generally is the goddess of the hearth, but some interpretations put her in charge over all aspects of the home, which is what this painting is more about. "

Wow, I love how you reresented the folds in the clothing, it looks practically real! Just a side note- Hestia isn't spelled literally how it is pronounced in English. Although with modern Greek having X represent H, her name was spelled (if you directly translate letter-per-letter Greek aplhabet into English) 'Estia (the apostrophe in front of the E means "hard breath" which gives a suttle h sound, which the Romans translated to an actual H, but originally the X sounded like a light K in Ancient Greek and represented by the letters CH, like in Christmas and Chronology, which in Greek, both modern and ancient, were spelled with X).

:-) Julianne Dodds replies: "You caught me. But thanks for the comments."

I like the colours in this one but if you want some advise then there should be more of them on the wall and on the relief. The ancient Greeks used a lot of colour, all the white surfaces one see in modern movies and books remind more of how the ruins of today look and less of how the looked in there time.

:-) Julianne Dodds replies: "I appreciate the advice and I'll keep that in mind."
