I wish I could see him up closer, I mean inspect an original piece or a closer scan of his face and all, but what strikes me about it is the composition. Use of the rule of thirds. I got to thinking, how would this picture look, if he had a long expanse of that brown behind him, and he was say on the far left of a picture about three times as wide as what you have here? .... Hmm, I hope that makes sense. As if to portray the distance of the journey he has behind him? I'm not saying that composition would be *better* but think about how it would change the tone and mood of the entire piece. Thanks again for sharing. Julianne Dodds replies: "This was an experiment of watercolor on Bristol. It didn't work, but I suppose I should rescan it. I think there's a better version on my webpage. I like your idea on the composition."

I completely love this peice, the way you’ve done the background, and the way he stands over the edge of the cliff.
