| 11 Mar 2004 | Anonymous | Loading...The colors are good, and I like the composition. I think you've under-imagined the World Tree, though: in other pictures (especially "They Dance Alone" and "Veritas") you show an ability to imagine nature as more living and wild. (I'm tempted to say, "More pagan," and that can't be bad for Norse myth...) And what could be more wild and living than something called "The World Tree"? REALLY nice play with light! I think the interaction between the moon and the tree needs to be stronger, but that may just be my obsessive liking for dramatics. Julianne Dodds replies: "I've got to say, these comments are just getting better and better! This painting was a huge step for me, because I hadn't done a complete painting in a long time. The light was what I was focusing on and, honestly, the tree was just a tree in there for atmosphere, although it and the moon look better in real life. Maybe I'll do another focusing on the tree. Thanks for the lovely comments and criticism." | |
| 14 Mar 2004 | Jim | Loading...(PS) The hills in the background: they look like a reclining body. Whether it was intentional or not, it's a very fine touch, not at all overstated. Julianne Dodds replies: "Hey, whadaya know? I just wasn't sure about painting hills back then. I like to think I've improved." | |
