(I get the feeling from this picture that your imagination was more your own than in many of your pictures that owe more to other peoples' fiction than you need to. Don't take that as a slam: I just think in this one you show that your own imagination is more fertile than when you "collaborate" with others.) Julianne Dodds replies: "this is the kind of comment I wish I got more of. Thank you for seriously analyzing my work. "

Julianne Dodds replies: "For months I've been carrying on a love affair with lines. This piece was incredibly fulfilling. I suppose I ought to do another."

I love the facial expression, and you are the second person I've said that to, and I have seen dozens of Elfwood artists. Not all, but a lot. Also, I think her thoughtful expression is due to remembering. Good times. I don't know. U mentioned, i think, that you do portraits of people. The practice has obviously really helped U. lol. Julianne Dodds replies: "Ph, thank you. I really enjoyed doing this picture. It was quite a challenge."
| 5 Feb 2005 | Derek C. Smith | Loading...I agree with Freckles: your work doing portraiture has really given you a solid skill with faces. I'm trying to think of the Sting song that you mentioned. I cannot seem to recall it, but I'm only a casual Sting fan at best. The vertical lines, as individual elements which create this character and entire piece are so skillfully brought together in the large picture. The straight lines produce a very feminine and attractive curve from a distance. THAT is a very slick technique! Thank you for sharing. Julianne Dodds replies: "Oh, now I love what you said about the straight lines and her silhouette. What an observation Derek. The song is "They dance alone." An art teacher brought it to my attention when I began this piece." | |
| 9 Jun 2005 | Quiet and shy | Loading...I know that song. My dad has about a hundred Sting songs on iTunes, and I remember listening to this one a couple times. Lovely melody. And just as lovely a piece. The lines add so much to it. Great work! | |
