But the general color relationships are awfully nice: good use of light and shadows for contrast, and lines and circles / curves too. I like the way the background bisects the picture, but the "aura" around her unites the upper and lower halves... then also how the top has a kind of brooding order compared to the swirling chaos below. Or I could just be reading too much into it... But I do like it. Julianne Dodds replies: "Well, I used mostly Payne's Grey for this painting, so it is pretty monochromatic. I would crop it a bit, for her position in the painting is a bit weird, i think it would be more balanced if she was more centered.
